RUTH

The Women’s Tuesday Lunch Bunch will be doing a Bible Study on the book of Ruth beginning January 9th for six weeks. This is an actual study into one of the only two books of the Bible that are named after a woman. Ruth is a story about three characters and the story of redemption. It’s about being an outsider who becomes an insider because of a kinsman redeemer. It also contains the genealogy of our Christ.

This study is filmed with Dr. Sandra Richter who also wrote The Epic of Eden. This study is geared for those who have never studied a book in the Bible in depth before but is also for those of you who have. There is no pressure to complete homework, though there is a study guide that will help you along the way (Cost is $15). We will order these ahead of time and have them for you on the first day of class so it is important that you register so we have an adequate number of books. Before you come, I would suggest that you get familiar with the book of Ruth by reading through it in one setting (I know that’s not always possible with small children - so do your best). There are only four chapters in the book of Ruth.

For Lunch Bunch, for those that would like to eat together, we meet at noon and then begin the study around 12:20 p.m. We never go past 2 p.m. so mom’s can make it to the car line. We meet in the Youth Area on the West Campus (by Rite Aid). We hope that you will join us in the New Year for something a little different. This study is being led by Rev. Rebecca Rutherford. Contact her at rebecca@spanishfortumc.org  if you have any questions or click here to REGISTER !
Parenting Beyond Your Capacity Study

Join us for this 8-week parenting study, starting with an orientation on Wednesday, January 10th from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. on the West Campus. Cost is $15 for class materials.

Any parent who feels unequipped to raise a child in today's world knows parenting this generation can be challenging. In this study, we will look at practical solutions that will change how you relate to this new generation. This study will encourage you, challenge you and better equip you to raise healthy adults in today's world-something that is not only possible, but within your reach. For more info call Beth Allen or click HERE to register.
January 12-14, 2018 - Winter Revive Camp (AMEN) ...It is almost here - register now! ALL 7th-12th graders (6th graders will be attending Confirmation Retreat). The cost is $150, which covers transportation, food on the way, and all Revive expenses. They will just need to bring money for lunch on the way home and for snacks there (optional).

Mission Effort from our Children's Ministry

For the 2017-2018 year, our mission focus will be UMCOR Relief Health Kits. We will collect (and eventually assemble) UMCOR Health Relief Kits. UMCOR is a ministry of The United Methodist Church that is dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work includes programs and projects in disaster response, health, sustainable agriculture, food security, relief supplies, and more.

The children will participate and support this organization within The United Methodist Church by working to collect the different supplies necessary for UMCOR Health Kits that will be sent to aid their efforts around the globe. Our goal is for each month throughout the entire year we will designate a different supply item required by UMCOR for the Relief Health Kit, and that we will focus on collecting and do so for the duration of that month. In the Spring after we have collected all the items required, the children will have the opportunity to help assemble the kits.

UMCOR HEALTH KIT : JANUARY ITEM - New Combs

In February, we will collect new nail clippers. Please bring items to the drop off box in the Narthex of the Sanctuary or to the Kids’ area on the West Campus.

When do they bring donated items: Children may bring items with them to normally scheduled worship and program times.

Where are donation drop boxes: Donation Tub locations are on the Main Campus in the Narthex of the Sanctuary, and SFUMC West Campus Room #WD104 (more commonly known as Extreme kids worship room)

If you have questions regarding this effort, please contact Jennifer Robertson, Director of Children’s and Nursery Ministries at jrobertson@spanishfort.umc.
Blue Lake Elementary Winter Retreat

Blue Lake Elementary Winter Retreat is for current 3rd-5th graders. This is a great opportunity for kids to get a taste of camp and enjoy a weekend of growing closer to God with kids from all over Alabama and West Florida. The cost is $115 by December 15th and $125 after then. To register online click HERE. Paper registrations are available through the church office, if needed. The registration deadline will be Jan. 19th.

We will be providing transportation for this event, so please let us know when you register so we can put your child on our bus list. Also, let us know if you are interested in being a chaperone. Any questions, contact Beth or Jennifer at 626-1334.
A Word from the Security Task Force: This is a newly formed team of members who represent different safety backgrounds and age levels within the congregation. As we are in the beginning stages of creating and implementing a policy, please feel free to talk with us.

The members of this team currently are: Stuart Woods (Chair), Rev. Rebecca Rutherford, Roger Few, Caleb Reeves, Jacque Helms, Pat Shubird, Margie Walters, Ashley Harris (Trustee), Rob Colville (Trustee), Larry Davis, Jenni Dismukes, Jennifer Robertson, and Becky Comer.
