Two Ways to Prevent Trailer Theft
A kingpin lock secures the trailer at the kingpin, preventing an unauthorized tractor from hooking up and pulling the trailer away. It’s one of the most effective ways to prevent trailer theft because even if someone has access to a tractor, they can't connect to the trailer when the lock is installed. We recommend kingpin locks for any parked or unattended trailers, especially in yards, drop lots, and customer locations where trailers may sit for extended periods.
A gladhand lock installs over the service or emergency air line gladhand connection on the trailer. By locking the gladhand, you prevent someone from charging the air system, releasing the brakes, and moving the trailer. Gladhand locks are a great visual deterrent and add another layer of protection, particularly in busy yards where equipment is constantly being moved and you want to clearly indicate that a trailer is not to be moved.
We typically recommend kingpin locks as the primary theft-prevention device for any trailer that may be left unattended, and gladhand locks as a strong supplemental control or for operations that want quick, visible “do not move” protection in the yard.
