Welcome to February! Thank you to everyone who attended the Awards Banquet last month!Attendance was higher than ever and based on the feedback everyone had a great time. I always enjoy recognizing and awarding the best of the best in our Chamber and community!
The new membership investment structure has been rolled out. You can find information about the new levels (called tiers) on the Chamber website. This new structure will show you precisely what you get for your annual dues and will help us to serve you better. If you have any questions please let us know.
Be sure to attend the luncheon this month and hear from the CEO & Publisher for Star Local Media (they print the Lakeshore Times). It should be a very interesting luncheon. Finally, check out the new event we are holding on April 7th - a Texas Hold'Em Tournament!

There are few things more terrifying than being notified by the IRS that you're going to be audited. It's not just your money that's at stake; so is your peace of mind. The prospect of having to pay additional taxes and significant fines is bad enough, but what can be worse is the investment of your time and emotional turmoil involved in having your business and life under the IRS microscope.
According to Enrolled Agent Steve Carter, president of Carter Group Tax Service, although the chances are slim you will be audited, there are certain things you can do to reduce the possibility of coming under the IRS' radar even further. In his talk, "How to Avoid an IRS Audit," Steve will share with your members:
- What kind of supporting documentation the IRS says they should keep
- Why having a low overall net income may be a red flag
- How to fill out their tax return properly if they have a home office

Lawson & Co CPAs, LLC has been a member of the Chamber since opening their doors in 2007. President and owner Kevin Lawson became a Certified Public Account the year before in 2006. Since opening his office in Rowlett, Kevin has served as the accountant for the Chamber and has been an involved member of both the Chamber and the Rowlett business community.
This valuable Rowlett business was recognized by the Chamber and community as Business of the Year for 2014. Kevin and his staff have a reputation for integrity and going the extra mile for their clients. Their willingness to act not only as accountants but also as teachers for their business clients is an asset to all who deal with the firm.
Kevin is a proud graduate of Leadership Class 19 also known as the Pole Jumpers. He is great supporter of the Leadership program and has enrolled four of his staff members in the program.
