Lessons on Faith + Virtue

Dear Families,

Welcome to the Cougar Compass, our weekly email that will highlight lessons on faith and virtue. Our Education in Virtue curriculum is a Christian curriculum structured on the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas regarding the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. It aims to provide a consistent structure for instruction on the virtues to guide in the development of habits necessary to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.

By understanding the meaning of the virtues, one is better equipped to respond to God’s love and grace. Each week our students learn about a different virtue. In the past, we've shared the weekly virtue in our Cougar Connection Newsletter. However, this year we have decided to send out a separate message each Wednesday that highlights our virtue of the week. Sometimes we will also highlight simple lessons about our Catholic Faith.

We hope you find this mid-week email inspiring. For those of you who are not Catholic, we hope it helps you learn more about our faith and the values that are part of our curriculum here at Corpus Christi Catholic School.

In Christ,

Kristy

This Week's Virtue is Affability

Meaning: Being easy to approach and easy to talk to-friendly.

Ways to Cultivate Affability

Ages 6 and up: Smile, greet others, “How are you doing?”

Ages 10 and up: Smile, acknowledge the presence of others, take time to listen to others.

Ages 12 and up: Smile, acknowledge the presence of others, try to see Jesus in others.

Prayer for Affability

Jesus, King of my heart, You were kind to the little children who came to you. Be my strength as I try to be good to all I meet today.

Called to Be Saints

At Corpus Christi School we love celebrating the lives of the Saints! A patron saint has been assigned to each class by Fr. Pat. These class patron saints will remain the same for each class during their entire time at CCS. The chosen saints offer our students more chances to interact with our Catholic faith by learning about their class saints. This year we are going to share more about our class saints via the Cougar Compass. We hope you will enjoy learning about them too!

St. Thomas Aquinas

1226-1274

St. Thomas Aquinas was a highly influential Italian Dominican friar, philosopher, and theologian, known for his profound impact on Western thought. He was born around 1225 and died in 1274, leaving behind a legacy of theological and philosophical works, most notably his Summa Theologiae. Aquinas is considered a Doctor of the Church, and his writings are foundational to Catholic theology and philosophy.

St. Thomas Aquinas is the Patron Saint Fr. Pat has assigned to our 3rd Graders.
