The Cougar Connection
The mission of Corpus Christi Catholic School is to nurture every child by providing the opportunities to grow in faith, achieve academic success, and serve others as disciples of Jesus

April 17, 2023

Dear Parents,

We were so glad to see all of our smiling students today! We hope that all of our families enjoyed the Easter Break. After this week, we only have five more weeks left in the school year. We know how quickly they will pass.

On May 6th, our PTO will be hosting the CCS Kentucky Derby. This is a wonderful fundraiser for our school. Please look for all the information you need to know concerning the event in this newsletter.

The Ark test is national standardized Religion test. This test will be given to students in grades 2nd-8th this week. We know our students will do a wonderful job of demonstrating their knowledge of our Catholic faith.

Sincerely,
Bible Verse and Prayer Focus of the Month

Our Bible verse focus for the month of April is: Matthew 22:37

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”

Our prayer focus is The Divine Praises:

Blessed be God.

Blessed be his Holy Name.

Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.

Blessed be the Name of Jesus.

Blessed be his most Sacred Heart.

Blessed be his most Precious Blood.

Blessed be Jesus in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.

Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.

Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.

Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception.

Blessed be her glorious Assumption.

Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.

Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse.

Blessed be God in his angels and in his saints.

Education in Virtue

Each week, we are focusing on a particular virtue as a school. Students have been learning the definition as well as what living the virtue looks and sounds like in our actions and words.

The virtues we are learning about the next few weeks are Humility and Meekness:

Humility (Week of April 17)

Meaning

Awareness that all one’s gifts come from God and appreciation for the gifts of others.

Ways to Cultivate

  • Ages 6 and up: Clap for someone who does a good job, “God gave me this talent.”
  • Ages 10 and up: Give compliments to others and accept compliments from others.
  • Ages 12 and up: Show deference to others, acknowledge the accomplishments of others, look honestly at your strengths and weaknesses.

Prayer

Dear Jesus,

You said, “Learn from Me, for I am meek and humble of heart.” (Matthew 11:29) You are God, yet you became little out of love for me. I desire to become little for love of you. Help me to be honest about my strengths and weaknesses. May you be glorified in everything I do!

Meekness (Week of April 24)

Meaning

Serenity of Spirit while focusing on the needs of others.

Ways to Cultivate

  • Ages 6 and up: When you get upset, count to ten before you react.
  • Ages 10 and up: Walk away when you are angry instead of arguing or fighting.
  • Ages 12 and up: Remain calm, allow others to go first, wait without expecting people to notice your patience.

Prayer

Dear Jesus,

Be king of my heart, especially when I am frustrated or angry. In those moments, give me the grace to use all my emotions for the good.
