Dear Families,
We were so glad to see all of our smiling students today! We hope that all of our families enjoyed the Easter Break. After this week, we only have four more weeks left in the school year. We know how quickly they will pass.
On May 7, our PTO will be hosting the CCS Kentucky Derby. This is a wonderful fundraiser for our school. Please look for all the information you need to know concerning the event in this newsletter.

Bible Verse and Prayer Focus of the Month
|
|
Our Bible verse focus for the month of April is Matthew 22:37
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Our prayer focus is The Divine Praises:
Blessed be God.
Blessed be his Holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man.
Blessed be the Name of Jesus.
Blessed be his most Sacred Heart.
Blessed be his most Precious Blood.
Blessed be Jesus in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.
Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy.
Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception.
Blessed be her glorious Assumption.
Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother.
Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse.
Blessed be God in his angels and in his saints.

Each week, we are focusing on a particular virtue as a school. Students have been learning the definition as well as what living the virtue looks and sounds like in our actions and words.
The virtues we are learning about the next few weeks are:
Meekness (Week of April 25)
Meaning: Serenity of Spirit while focusing on the needs of others
Ways to Cultivate
- Ages 6 and up: When you get upset, count to ten before you react.
- Ages 10 and up: Walk away when you are angry instead of arguing or fighting
- Ages 12 and up: Remain calm, allow others to go first, wait without expecting people to notice your patience.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, Be king of my heart, especially when I am frustrated or angry. In those moments, give me the grace to use all my emotions for the good.
Moderation (Week of April 30)
Meaning: Attention to balance in one’s life
Ways to Cultivate
- Ages 6 and up: Resist the desire to play during work time in class or at home
- Ages 10 and up: Limit how much food you eat, limit time on the computer
- Ages 12 and up: Set limits for yourself, create a balance with homework and leisure activity, fast from food you enjoy.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, Help me to keep a balance in my life, using created things properly and in the right amount that is best for me. I need Your help to set limits for myself in doing things that I enjoy, such as using video games, playing outside, eating, using my phone and the internet. Lead me on Your way of happiness.

Support for Schoolmate and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
|
|
Chloe Longa, one of our kindergarten students, is a cancer conqueror. Chloe was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in May of 2020 and the leukemia is now in remission. Chemotherapy continues to ensure the cancer stays in remission. Her current chemotherapy sessions will end in July of this year.
Chloe is the Girl of the Year for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS.) What this means is that annually people compete to be the top fundraisers in support of blood cancer research; the boy & girl of the year help to be an inspiration for the purpose behind the fundraising. Below is a billboard that Chloe is featured on in downtown Birmingham. The adults in this photo are committed to raising $400,000 for blood cancer research.
As part of their children’s initiative, LLS is dedicating $100 Million to pediatric cancer research If CCS families want to support LLS, they can donate through Chloe's fundraising page at: https://pages.lls.org/mwoy/al/bhm22/clonga
To help Chloe in raising awareness, we plan to have an out-of-uniform day on Tuesday, May 10th. You are welcome to donate through her fundraising page if you like or send any donations to the school on May 10th. We are proud of the awareness Chloe is raising for LLS.
