Dear Parents,
Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week has been the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week. This year we will celebrate Catholic Schools Week from January 29th -February 3rd.
Now entering its 49th anniversary year, this year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.
We are planning to kick off our celebration on Sunday, January 29th during both the 9:00am and 11:00am Mass. We want to celebrate the partnership we have with our parish and let parish members know we are thankful for their support. We also want to recognize the role you have as parents in being the primary religious educators of your children. We encourage our families to join us and please have your student wear their school uniform!
Also on January 29th, we will be hosting an open house for prospective families from 2:00-4:00pm. If you know of someone interested in our school, please let them know of this event. We want others to know what a wonderful school we have!
Look for a full schedule of Catholic Schools Week activities to be shared soon!

Bible Verse and Prayer Focus of the Month
|
|
Our Bible Verse for January: Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Our prayer focus is the “Anima Christi”
Soul of Christ, make me holy. Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, fill me with love. Water from Christ’s side, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me. Good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me. Never let me be parted from you.
From the evil enemy, protect me.
At the hour of my death, call me, and tell me
to come to you that with your saints I may praise you through all eternity.
Amen.

This year all Archdiocesan Schools will participate in the Education in Virtue program. This program focuses on the development of the whole person and equips our children to strive for holiness, which is where we will find true happiness. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines virtue as “a habitual and firm disposition to do the good.” Virtues are essentially those habits of doing good that lead us to Christ. The three theological virtues are faith, hope, and charity. The Cardinal virtues are justice, prudence, fortitude and temperance. Flowing from these 7 core virtues are countless other virtues that help us to be in a relationship with God. Everyone is born with a capacity for virtue, but we need education and practice to become truly virtuous people.
Each week, we are focusing on a particular virtue as a school. Students have been learning the definition as well as what living the virtue looks and sounds like in our actions and words.
The Cardinal Virtue we are focusing on this week is Prudence, and the related virtue we will focus on the next week is:
Docility (Week of January 16)
Meaning
Willingness to be taught.
Ways to Cultivate
-
Ages 6 and up: Follow directions, be willing to take turns.
-
Ages 10 and up: Listen to the teacher, follow directions, be willing to take turns.
-
Ages 12 and up: Listen to others and be willing to follow directions, thank others for rightful corrections.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, you are my teacher in every situation! Before acting on important matters, please give me the humility to seek Your wisdom and the wisdom of others, in order to make the best decision. Give me the gift of counsel, so that I may do Your holy will in each situation.
Foresight (Week of January 23)
Meaning
Consideration of the consequences of one’s actions, thinking ahead.
Ways to Cultivate
-
Ages 6 and up: Think about the options….” What would happen if?
-
Ages 10 and up: Learn how to gather information to make a decision, plan ahead for tests and projects.
-
Ages 12 and up: Pray, think, act, and learn how to gather information to make a decision, plan out long-term and short-term goals.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, When I come upon situations that require serious thought, please send your Holy Spirit to guide me, so that I may always do your holy will. Guide me with Your counsel and give me the courage to act right when it is difficult.
