Dear Families,
It is hard to believe we have reached the middle of our first quarter of school. What a fantastic start we have had. As always, thank you for trusting us with your children. It is a joy to welcome your sweet students to school each and every day.

Bible Verse and Prayer Focus of the Month
|
|
Each month students learn a Bible verse and recite it together at school during our morning prayers. We also pray a particular prayer each month.
During the month of September, our verse is:
Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
Our prayer focus is The Our Father.
We would love for you to work with your students at home.

As a reminder, we strive to incorporate the Education in Virtues program into our daily schedule. This program focuses on the development of the whole person and equips our children to strive for holiness, which is where we will find true happiness. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines virtue as “a habitual and firm disposition to do the good.” Virtues are essentially those habits of doing good that
lead us to Christ. The three theological virtues are faith, hope, and charity. The Cardinal virtues are justice, prudence, fortitude, and temperance. Flowing from these 7 core virtues are countless other virtues that help us to be in a relationship with God. Everyone is born with a capacity for virtue, but we need education and practice to become truly virtuous people.
Each week, we will focus on a particular virtue as a school. Students will learn the definition as well as what living the virtue looks and sounds like in our actions and words.
The Cardinal Virtue we are focusing on is Justice, and the related virtues we will focus on in the next two weeks are Kindness and Loyalty.
Kindness (Week of September 19)
Meaning
Expressing general concern for the well-being of others and anticipating their needs.
Ways to Cultivate
-
Ages 6 and up: Talk to someone who seems sad, ask if others need help
-
Ages 10 and up: Ask how someone is doing, respond to kindness by being kind in return
-
Ages 12 and up: Practice speaking, thinking, and acting kindly even when someone is not being kind to you
Prayer
Dear Jesus, you are kindness itself. I desire to show charity toward my neighbor through my thoughts, words, and actions. When others meet me, let them meet YOU in me!
Loyalty (Week of September 26)
Meaning
Accepting the bonds implicit in relationships, defending virtues upheld by Church, family, and country.
Ways to Cultivate
-
Ages 6 and up: Speak positively about family and friends, “My brother/sister/friend is good at…”
-
Ages 10 and up: Make your actions correspond to your words and promises
-
Ages 12 and up: Seek to do your best to help others, fulfill your responsibilities, be faithful to your commitments.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, help me to be steadfast in my relationships and faithful to the duties those relationships entail, even when this may be difficult.
