Celebrate living, working and thriving in Marseilles!

Dear Marseilles Residents,

Positive Results:

The City is in the process of renovating 10 residential homes with the 450k Housing Rehabilitation Grant awarded to the City for the second time. The grant was supported by donations from OSB, Marseilles Bank, Jonathon Walker of Edward Jones, and NUCOR.

What's Ahead:

The City has submitted for a Brownfield Grant for Washington School and Nabisco. Bids will be taken after the first of the year regarding the OSLAD of 650k Grant to renovate Broadway Park and create a splash pad.

The City is working on a ITEP Main Street Renovation and Beautification Grant which will be submitted next year.

The City Council is looking forward to next year with several projects slated. In addition to projects mentioned in previous communications, the sidewalk from the Legion to 11th Street is still scheduled for bid. Due to the increase in construction costs, which have doubled since this process started roughly five years ago, we are working on trying to remove the sidewalk on Bratton Avenue for the time being.

The City continually strives to be transparent and to keep our residents informed as comprehensively as possible. Unfortunately, there are times where false information is shared, and opinions not supported by facts, are published on other social media sites. As a result, and due to our goal to share factual information with our community members, we have added two additional forms of communication to reach as many residents and businesses as possible.

You can follow The City's new Nextdoor page, as well as subscribe to weekly E-communications that are being sent every Thursday afternoon. These communications contain a variety of information, including news from the Mayor and City Council, as well as community organizations that serve Marseilles. We have also upgraded our Council Corner and Council Minute which will now also be sent out through Constant Contact.

Please note that Nextdoor is unique in that it only includes our residents, and the City will be able to send messages to our different neighborhoods, along with putting out polls to continually improve services, as well as provide emergency alerts when they are deemed necessary.

You can also find these updates and other important information on our Facebook pages, City of Marseilles Illinois and Marseilles Happenings, or on our website at cityofmarseilles.com.

On behalf of myself, the City Council, City Staff, and our boards – we wish everyone and very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Mayor Hollenbeck
