Hello Chesley's Nation

Another fabulous season is just around the corner.

Dear Chesley’s Family,

Can you smell the fresh air on Netley Creek yet? After another long Manitoba winter, we are absolutely thrilled to officially welcome you back for the 2026 season!

As we prepare to open the gates on May 1st, we’ve been busy around the resort making sure everything is ready for your return. Whether you’re a long-time resident or a newbie who just became a seasonal camper, Chesley’s is more than just a campground—it’s a community. We’ve missed the sounds of kids playing, the smell of Pad Thai from the restaurant, and the sight of boats heading out for an early morning walleye run.

We have a fantastic lineup of events planned by the Camper’s Committee this year, from our legendary garbage ball tournaments to the annual Halloween parade. Our goal, as always, is to provide a safe, fun, and relaxing "home away from home" for every one of you.

Thank you for choosing to spend your summer with us. We can’t wait to see your faces and hear your stories around the campfire very soon.

New Security at front Gate

Everyone will need to purchase a Keycard lock for $20.00 which will be refundable whenever you leave or sell. Additional Keycards will be available for sale as well. You will have to swipe the card in front of a card reader to gain access to the campground. The barrier gates will be open on May 1st for the first week or two until everyone has a chance to get their access cards.

New Garbage Trailer Location

Since we are changing the front entrance area with security gates we are moving the garbage trailer to a new location. The trailer will be in the middle of the campground just west of the parking area and north of the field. There will be lights set up as well as security cameras around the area. Please use the trailer for your household garbage only.

This opening-day checklist focuses on the critical safety and security tasks required to transition your seasonal site from winter storage to spring readiness.

1. Exterior & Structural Integrity

  • Roof and Seam Inspection: Check the roof membrane for punctures from falling branches or heavy snow. Inspect all seams, windows, and vents for cracks and reseal as necessary to prevent water damage.
  • Tire Safety: Inspect tires for "aged out" DOT codes, dry rot, or sidewall cracking. Inflate to the recommended cold pressure before moving the unit.
  • Leveling Check: Verify that blocking or stabilizers haven't shifted due to ground thaw; re-level if the unit has tilted.
  • Awning Care: Fully extend your awning to air it out and check for mold or fabric damage before the first spring storm.

2. Life Safety Systems

  • Detector Testing: Test all smoke, carbon monoxide, and LP gas leak detectors. Replace all batteries—even if they seem fine—as cold winters drain them.
  • Fire Extinguisher: Ensure it is present, fully charged, and not expired. For dry chemical models, turn them over and tap with a rubber mallet to loosen settled powder.
  • First Aid Refresh: Restock your kit with fresh antihistamines for spring allergies and hydrocortisone for early-season rashes.

3. Utility & Appliance Startup

  • Water System Sanitize: Flush out winter antifreeze and sanitize the fresh water tank using a bleach solution (typically 1/4 cup per 15 gallons of water).
  • Propane Leak Test: Perform a "soap test" (50/50 water and dish soap) on all hose connectors and fittings to check for bubbles indicating a leak.
  • Pest Prevention: Check burner assemblies in the fridge and water heater for spider nests, which can block gas flow and cause fires.

4. Site Security Setup

  • Lock Maintenance: Lubricate all exterior latches and baggage door locks with a dry silicone or graphite-based lubricant to prevent sticking from spring moisture.
  • Lighting: Install motion-sensor solar lights at the back of the site and near entrances to deter both intruders and wildlife.
  • Valuables Strategy: Keep high-value gear locked inside the RV rather than in exterior compartments, which often use universal keys.
  • Wildlife Deterrents: Use expanding foam to seal any new gaps where wiring or pipes enter the RV to block emerging rodents.
