Training Update!
Hello Everyone!
We hope that this newsletter finds you all well this holiday season, maybe even working on a New Year's resolution list?

November was mainly about strength and conditioning: first in our garage at home, and later at Bommarito Performance Systems in Davie, Florida -- no more need of a heater there! Remote or in-person, we are always under the guidance of Micah Kust, US Sailing Team Fitness Coordinator. It goes without saying that training with many other US Sailing Team members in the gym at Bommaritos has been encouraging as we push each other to get stronger. And it's also fun to be lifting next to MLB and NFL players... not to mention humbling!
Training & Racing in Miami
Driving down to Miami!
Training in the gym at Bommarito Performance Systems
A bit before Thanksgiving, the Cowles team caravanned down i95 to Miami, with a coach boat and sailboats in tow. A heartfelt thank you to Andrea Foley and Cris Sweeny for arranging and generously providing our family with housing in the heart of Coconut Grove for our two-month stay in Miami. Remote schooling and working has allowed our sister and dad to join us so we could all be together during the holiday season, avoiding flights all together.

Back on the water, we have continued our training blocks with Olympians Stu McNay and Dave Hughes, sailing on weekdays, testing equipment, working on maneuvers etc. Nope, it doesn't get old! They are always working on something, and we are lucky to join in on the fun.

Stay tuned for our return to the race course with the 2021 470 North American Championships (January 8-10) in Miami.

Planning ahead... Spring in Europe
Back to back events are scheduled in Europe, closely after our final qualifier, the 2021 470 World Championships (March 5-13) in Vilamoura, Portugal. Therefore, all logistical plans must be made prior to our last qualifier, with a commitment to various expenses (housing, travel, transport). We are planning to compete in the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Regatta in late March in Palma, Spain, and in the European Championship in early April in Hyeres, France.

Fundraising under the current circumstances remains challenging. Thanks to the generosity of many donors, we have been able to raise all but $9,000 of the budgeted funds necessary to get us through March.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to our campaign by clicking the donation button below.
Status Update on Olympic Qualification Remains the Same
As many of you are aware, our final qualifier is the 2021 470 World Championship in Vilamoura, Portugal scheduled for March 5-13, 2021.

Based on our results in the last two selection regattas, all three US Women 470 teams are really close. We are virtually tied with the Brugman sisters -- just one point behind -- and two points ahead of Nikki Barnes and Lara Dallman-Weiss. To qualify, we will need to beat the Brugman sisters and finish no worse than just behind Nikki and Lara, given the fact that the last qualifier is also the tie breaker. We are confident that we can win selection as we have beaten both teams since September 2019.
We will continue to share some pictures of us training, exercising, and "resting" via our various social media platforms. Stay tuned for our next newsletter regarding our training in Portugal in preparation for the Worlds. We look forward to your comments and feedback, please keep them coming! We love them!

Happy Holidays!
Be well.
Stay safe.

Carmen and Emma
