The Crew's News
January 2022
Commodore's Corner
I'm proud to serve as your Commodore this year in a club that is celebrating our 50th year in existence. What an honor it is to follow in the footsteps of the 49 previous Commodores right here in our great Boca community.

I want to thank our officers this year, Gloria Phillips as Vice Commodore, Jim Charles as Fleet Captain, Laura Connelly as Secretary, Ferris Van Dien as Treasurer, and Caren Ventrone as Newsletter Editor.

2022 kicked off with a great first event at the Harbor Master Tiki Grille. We had 10 boats and over 50 people who came out for what was a perfect day of great fellowship, fun, great food and wonderful weather. Thanks again to my board members who worked hard to make this event enjoyable. JC has a full line up of events coming your way both on weekdays and weekends to serve the needs of all our members.

Please watch for our communications in the Club Newsletter, our Facebook Page, and our monthly feature page in the Pointer to stay up-to-date on all our activities. We hope you'll get more involved and invite your neighbors to join our club. When you have suggestions or ideas, please pass them directly on to me so I can present them to our board.

See you on the water,

Dave Buzza

A Message from
Vice Commodore Gloria Phillips
We are off to a great start for the new boating year with 20 new members along with our kickoff lunch at the Harbor Master Tiki Grille. Welcome all and I’m sure you will enjoy participating in and being a part of our boating club!
To date, we have 100 total members who enjoy and support boating activity.

If you know a Boca resident who is not a member and enjoys boating activities, let me know or have them contact me directly so they can participate in our upcoming events. As a reminder, you can bring a guest to our events (same guest only twice) and that’s a great way to introduce them to our Club and the benefits of membership. If you are not a member, you can register at anytime, there is no cutoff.

Smooth cruising,

Gloria Phillips
Fleet Captain Jim (JC) Charles

The seas and weather were favorable for our voyage to the Harbor Master Tiki Grille, especially for January. February can also be a bear with intermittent cool temperatures and winds. Therefore, we have scheduled a couple events that are more sheltered:

The first event is the Wine Tasting which can only handle 30 people and is currently full, but no worries, another Tasting Event will be scheduled soon!

The second is a last minute change caused by Covid and lack of interest. The Calypso Breeze cruise was canceled by me because of a very small sign up and
communication with the cruise company. Instead, we will be boating up to Jimmy
Guana’s on February 16th. Tentative boat meet up is 11:00 with lunch at noon.
They are preparing a special menu for us to save waiting but good food! Sign up
online, it will be a great time!

On Saturday, March 19 we are having our fun Annual Fishing Contest!
No pressure for neophyte fishermen. This will take place within inner water in
the Gulf. Prizes will be given out at the lunch right after the Fishing Contest, all are
invited! Maybe Louie will play some dance music for us! Exact times TBD.

Also I am looking at another event to use our boats to go meet and eat somewhere, or drive your car, if that is your preference.

See you out on water!

Jim “JC” Charles
