A note from Clayton...
How do you feel about change? I am not talking about nickels and quarters, I am talking about change! How do you handle change? Here is what I have noticed. People are more ok with the change they initiate than they are with the change that someone else initiates. If you don't believe me, when you get home tonight rearrange all the furniture in your living room before your spouse arrives. Here is my prediction. You will like it and your spouse will be a little put off. In case your spouse beats you home and rearranges your furniture before you, to get even, go into the bedroom, open the closet and start rearranging their clothes. You will find out quickly that we are ok with the change we initiate, but struggle with the change that others initiate. We live in a constantly changing environment. Technology changes, friendships change, our kids change. Change is all around us. However, our ability to navigate change will help us to better handle the events of the future. When dealing with change that you initiate, remember to be patient with the people that you are taking on the journey. They are going to have a tougher hill to climb than you will because you initiated the change, but others have to accept the change. For those of you having to accept the change ask yourself these questions: Do I trust the people initiating the change? Do they have good intentions with this change? I believe that when you trust the initiators of change it is easier to handle change. We do not get to press pause on life and keep things they way we want them. What life looks like today is much different than it was 10 years ago. If we are going to minister to the people that God places in our lives, or in our church, we are going to have to make adjustments. Our message will never change, because our God never changes, but to reach a lost world our methods will have to change. In 1 Corinthians 9:22, Paul says, "I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some." Jesus said you don't put new wine into old wineskins, or how many times does God say I am about to do something "NEW." This week, as a church, let's work on being ready and flexible to handle change, because it may open doors for opportunities for God to grow His Kingdom.
