THIS SUNDAY

Sunday, April 19, 2026

Join us this third Sunday in the Easter season as we continue to celebrate the Resurrection! It is a very old church tradition to read lessons from Acts during the Easter season, as those lessons cover the events that took place after the Resurrection. And so our first lessons for the next few Sundays will be in the book of Acts.

Pastor Mary Jo will present a special message entitled Open Eyes, Open Our Hearts, Beth Polen and the choir will offer a lovely anthem that is a setting of the Gospel lesson and Julie Smith and the Sunday School team will continue to guide our children through this joyous time of the liturgical year.

Our readings this Sunday are:

Acts 2: 14a, 36 - 41

Luke 24: 13 - 35

Everyone is always welcome to worship here at Crossroads, and when we take Communion, everyone is always welcome at the Lord's table. So please tell your friends, coworkers or neighbors who may be looking for a church home about us! We worship every week in our sanctuary at 10:00 am.

This is From the Archives, where we present something from our extensive collection of archival photos, records and all manner of materials dating back to when the church was First Methodist Episcopal, to First Methodist, to Church of the Savior, to St. Paul's to Crossroads.

This week's archives item reminds us that this church has a long tradition of involving itself with community and activist organizations, and also for being a welcoming place for women.

This is a program from an event that the church, still the First Methodist Church, hosted in March of 1967 for the Canton Sorosis and Junior Sorosis, which were part of the Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs. Canton Sorosis was a founding part of the Canton Woman's Club.

This Legislation Day event for women included government officials giving presentations and answering questions, and didn't shy away from having open conversations about such topics as education, welfare and pollution. How different things were in 1967!

Though these were outside groups, there is certainly a parallel between the kinds of things they felt comfortable talking about in our church in 1967 (in the space age!) and our own church group today, Crossroads Community Action, under the able direction of our own Megan Smith.

And our group will have their next meeting after church on Sunday, April 26, and all church members - men and women - are always welcome to be a part of it!
