Last year, our Giving Day returned to make over $50,000 for Bishop Canevin!
We are back this year to prove that we can beat that number - Giving Day will kick off Homecoming Week.
Funds raised go into the BC operating fund, with specific focus on the new tutoring program, our Broadcast Studio improvements, expanding all athletic programs, and funding student activities like Homecoming and Fall Festival!

All Crusader Alumni: Welcome Home!
Calling all alumni from every era! Join us as we celebrate the tradition and spirit that make Bishop Canevin so special.
- Alumni Tent Headquarters: Stop by our Alumni Tent right at the stadium entrance for special snacks, exclusive alumni merch, and fun giveaways!
- Show Your Crusader Vintage: Wear your vintage Canevin gear! We want to see those classic letterman jackets and retro logos that represent all of the decades.
-
Photo: We will gather together for an alumni group photo next to the student section between the first and second quarter. Just look for the Welcome Alumni sign in the stands. We can't wait to hear your voices again as we sing our Alma Mater (and hopefully the victory song!) proudly as one Crusader family.
- Tickets: Tickets are available at the gate or you can preorder online:

Football and Cheer Alumni: Weekly Mass & Game Day Pre-Game
We want our current team to feel the strength of the Crusader gridiron tradition behind them!
- Weekly Team Mass: Join the current team for their pre-game tradition of Mass on Friday with BC Chaplain Fr. Jacob at 3:15 PM in the BC Chapel. That leaves plenty of time to head over to Alexion’s, Coach’s, Wiggy’s, or your favorite Canevin spot to grab a bite with old friends before kickoff!
- Game Day Pre-Game: Meet on the fence at the 50 yard line by 6:30 PM to mingle with the players, offer words of encouragement, and be recognized by the Crusader faithful!
- Calling All Cheer Alumni! We would never forget our Cheer Cuties! Join us on the field during pre-game to grab your pom-poms, relive the glory days, and take a Crusader cheer team photo!
-
Football and Cheer RSVP: We want to honor you with correct introductions from the booth, so please fill out this quick RSVP form to help us prepare for you!
Marching Crusader Alumni:
Homecoming Halftime Show
The 2026 Marching Crusaders invite all Musician, Crusette, and Cavette alumni to join us in the stands and on the field!
What a perfect opportunity to dust off those skills and never fear, this is a no-judgment, no HIGH-KICKING zone. Your participation will absolutely be tailored to fit your comfort level.
To get ready, we’ve scheduled two rehearsals in the BC Band Room, and we'd love it if you could attend at least one:
- Thursday, October 1 (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM): Rehearsal with the current Marching Crusaders. We'll meet in the band room, and then break off into smaller practice groups.
-
Bonus: It’s also our BCMC Dine-to-Donate at Primanti’s (Steubenville Pike) from 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM! Mention BCMC and 20% goes to the band. Stick around after practice - the BCMC staff will be watching the Steelers crush the Browns!
- Saturday, October 3 (2:00 PM - 4:00 PM): Rehearsal with the current Marching Crusaders. We'll meet in the band room, and then break off into smaller practice groups.
- Game Day - Friday, October 9: Kickoff is at 7:00 PM at Dormont Memorial Stadium (please arrive by 6:00 PM for pre-game setup).
-
Marching Crusaders RSVP: Let us know how and when you can participate! Make sure you bring along a fellow classmate. The more the merrier!
Have questions about dusting off your instruments, poms, boots, or flags? Reach out to BC Alumni Band Director Jon Schultz '04 at schultzj@bishopcanevin.org. or barbischs@bishopcanevin.org.
Let’s fill Dormont Stadium with Bishop Canevin pride! We can't wait to welcome you all back home and hear your voices again as we sing our Alma Mater (and hopefully the victory song!) proudly as one Crusader family.
Once a Crusader, Always a Crusader!

CRUSADER VETERANS
SAVE THE DATES!
| |
We are making a sincere effort to honor the service and sacrifice of our Crusader military heroes as you so truly deserve.
First, we are pleased to offer a free ticket for all retired and active military Canevin alumni at the football game BC vs Seton LaSalle on Friday October 30, at 7PM at Dormont Stadium.
| | |
Second, on Veterans Day Wednesday November 11, 2026 at Noon in the BC gym, we will hold our second annual Living Rosary prayer service for our Canevin veterans, both living and deceased. We especially honor our six Crusaders killed in action, so that we may never forget that our freedom is not free.
More details to come, but please mark your calendars now for this special and reverent day, and we hope you are able to join us in prayer as a school community.
Here is a link to the current list of BC alumni and immediate family veterans.

BISHOP CANEVIN ART TOUR
with Sara Barbisch
| | |
Every morning, as I walk into this beautiful building, I never cease to be amazed by the sights and structure that surround me at BC.
Whether they are pure fun or deeply sacred, all pieces are meaningful to the Canevin experience. Take a stroll with me to check out some of the works of art…some new, some old, and a few soon to be installed.
| | |
As you pull into the main front circle, at the center you see “Triumph,” by Christian sculptor Timothy P. Schmalz. “Triumph” is an interpretation of the hands of God the Father opening to reveal the mystery and triumph of the resurrection.
| | |
Walking from the lot into our main entrance, you pass by our peaceful Chapel and its stained glass windows, and the gorgeous stone grotto dedicated to Our Holy Mother, graciously installed by Golden Triangle Construction in 2011.
| | |
As we continue to celebrate the return to our Franciscan roots, we are making sure that our spaces represent that shift, while still honoring the Jesuit-focused time of our history.
A new San Damiano Crucifix is soon to arrive and will be one of the first things you see as you enter the main lobby. To your left in the alcove will be new white stone statues of St. Paul the Apostle, Canevin’s original patron, and St. Francis. Our statue of St. Ignatius has been moved to the library to watch over our scholars as they continue to focus on the greater glory of God.
| |
We will also be installing our four new House crests and BC Core Values in the main lobby above the trophy cases. We will be sure to share pictures the moment these new pieces are blessed and installed!
| | |
Moving forward into the gym is the famous mural of the Crusader bursting through the wall, commissioned by former President and Principal Kenneth Sinagra.
We have also installed a Crucifix this year that has a constant shining spotlight.
| | |
As you sit in the bleachers, you are struck by the duality of the power and serenity of being a Crusader.
| | |
Downstairs in the G-side lobby is one of our favorite works, “The Face of Jesus Appears,” painted live by David Garibaldi on April 12, 2014 during the Catholic Men’s Conference. This stunning piece was then generously donated to us by Allen J. Sherwood, III, Class of 1981.
Check out Mr. Garibaldi in action here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VtiHkkbq18
| | |
As we continue upstairs on our tour, we pass by the Sinagra Innovation Lab, which used to be Mr. Mieczkowski’s classroom.
Rob Rao ‘90 is both a renowned scientist and artist that was inspired by Mr. Mitch. In memory and honor of the impact Mr. Mitch had on his life, Rob donated his painting “The Colors in Me” to be an inspiration for the new Crusader innovators moving through our halls.
| | |
Of course you can’t miss the magic that happens in the Art Room itself, led by our new art teacher, Lena Stuckeman. You can see the passion she inspires in her students in this Jackson Pollock display.
| |
One of our newest and most striking additions to the building is the installation of a large crucifix with sidelights in the B-side far stairwell. There is a matching large statue of our Mother set to be installed in the G-side far stairwell. She is awaiting her bracket to be built but will be installed in the next few weeks.
Mr. Palcsey led in retrieving these pieces from Diocesan Patrimony.
This balance not only honors Jesus and his mother, but pays homage to the history of Canevin’s "Boy" and "Girl" sides, with Jesus guiding the B Hall while Mary protects the G Hall.
There are so many more sights to see. Please know you are always welcome to come home for a tour with me and see these glorious sights for yourself!
Every alum is an integral part of our beautiful Bishop Canevin tapestry!

In Memoriam
We remember and honor our departed Canevin alumni brothers and sisters who have gone home to the Lord.
Prayer for Our Departed:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
We also pray for comfort and peace for their families and friends who carry their memory in their hearts.

If we have missed anyone, please send information to Sara at barbischs@bishopcanevin.org or call 412-922-7400 ext 3014 so we can honor them in the next Crusader Journal.

Bishop Canevin has already reached more than 1,000 service hours over the summer through 9/28 - and there’s no stopping in sight.
Congratulations to our top service leaders!

Deanna Joseph ‘97 is a Professor of Music at Georgia State University.
She will be guest conducting at Carnegie Hall for Manhattan Concert Productions this summer!

Cheers to Canevin Class of 1976 celebrating their 50th Reunion this weekend!
Our ‘76 Crusaders kicked off the weekend with a tour back in their old stomping grounds, then had a fun-filled evening at Cefalo’s the following evening. The Committee did a fantastic job of finding classmates, coordinating fun activities, creating a beautiful remembrance of classmates gone to heaven, and making sure every detail honored their Canevin days!

Big congrats to all involved. If anyone is planning similar fun for your class, don’t hesitate to email me at barbischs@bishopcanevin.org to arrange a tour!
