Why can't everyone just get along? I think this all the time as I read the various contentious posts online. Whether it is the argument of Bitcoin vs. Bitcoin Cash, the endless in-fighting with EOS, or the rantings of Ripple fanatics, there seems to be a trend in the Crypto world that value of one token is only validated by the worthlessness of it's nearest competitors. But one has to stop and wonder, does this inspire innovation and advancement of blockchain technology, or is a lot of energy and intelligence of very smart people being wasted with endless arguments?
On one hand it can be argued that these arguments spur meaningful discussion that encourages developers to come up with new solutions to problems such as the tendency towards centralization of technology. Additionally, these diatribes can be a good way to find information on a subject like blockchain technology that can be hard to find quality information about.
The other side of the argument about arguments is first off that it is a massive waste of energy. Even writing about this seems ironically like a waste. Then there is the aspect of not putting out a unified front to the world. This certainly is not helping bring wider adoption because if the blockchain community cannot decide on what is important from the technology, how on earth are investors supposed to determine this?
Now we are facing what looks like another crash with the stock market pulling Cryptos down, and rumors of Bitfinex facing insolvency. If ever there was a time to put petty differences aside and present a unified front to the investment world, this is it. If we focus on the technology and how it can make a difference, the world will take notice. And maybe, unlike current politics, we can use technology to bring people together instead of driving them apart.
