Ben Howard, the Cupboard's 10,000-Pound Man | |
Ben Howard, a student at Western Carolina University, has orchestrated three big food drives for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard, bringing in a total of 10,141.5 pounds across the three drives.
Ben began organizing food drives in 2022 as part of his work to become an Eagle Scout. After learning of the Cupboard's empty shelves last summer, he ran a second drive before heading back to school. Now, he has just completed his third food drive while home on winter break. Ben set a goal for himself to reach an accumulated total of 10,000 pounds - and the Cupboard is only too happy to celebrate his victory!
Ben has the logistics and communications process for food drives down to a science! He has also successfully enlisted the support of his parents (Lauren and Eric Howard), volunteers from BSA Troop 444 (Travis and Dominic McMahon, and Daniel Doskocil), and other friends (Violet Woolard, Eva Barnes, and Kara Vernon)... and of course, the neighbors who donated.
The most recent food drive collected donations from the Avocet, Honeycutt Farm, and Oliver Creek neighborhoods in a cold January rain!
Many thanks to Ben and team, and our entire community, for continuing support!
