MLK Day Cleanup 2026


West Augustine had roughly 233 volunteers sign up for the MLK Day Cleanup event that collected 220 bags of trash, 15 tires, and other unsightly trash from our roadways!

Uncovering Pounds of Litter


On Saturday, February 7th, 2026, the Matanzas Riverkeepers had an outstanding coastal cleanup at Fish Island Preserve. 54 amazing volunteers came to show their community spirit and collected 4,050 Pounds of unsightly trash, uncovering 15 tires, some of which had been buried for years due to illegal dumping.

Providing Good Food for Those in Need


At Epic-Cure, the mission is to feed more people and combat methane emissions by rescuing quality donated food from businesses, grocery stores, and farms to help with the fight against hunger by feeding the community, with over 50 million Americans relying on food assistance each year. They are hard at work utilizing the concept of Zero Waste to keep thousands of pounds of food out of the landfills.

We received a call from a resident, Mr. Brown, who wanted to recognize Christy Chapman for the exceptional service he received when contacting the Solid Waste Division.


He commended her professionalism and friendliness as well as her prompt resolution of his concern. He described the experience as outstanding and noted that this level of responsiveness is rare, especially with her follow-up the next day to confirm completion of his collection.


Christy’s dedication and commitment to excellent customer service exemplify the high standards we strive to provide to our residents each day.

Computers & Tablets

Computers, tablets, accessories, and cables require special processing to recover the materials they're made from. Please bring them to an electronics drop-off location.

Furniture Items

Donation or reuse is the preferred option for items in good condition. Alternatively, contact your waste hauler or bring items to a depot - please see Drop-off Locations for important details.


You can place large, bulky items out at the curb next to your regular garbage. This includes couches, sectionals, mattresses, household furniture, etc.

Corrugated cardboard boxes

Only flattened and clean corrugated cardboard is accepted. Please ensure there is no grease, oil, food residue, wax coating, or plastic/metal strapping. Staples and clear tape are acceptable. Please flatten and cut boxes no larger than 3x3 feet sections to place inside or next to the recycling cart.

Our goal at the Solid Waste Division is to divert as much waste as we can from the landfill. One of the best ways to do this is through our residential curbside recycling program. This Trash Tracker shows how well we're doing in St. Johns County.

The American Flag Rescue Program (AFRP) provides residents with the opportunity to properly retire flags with honor and respect. American Flag Drop Boxes are available to the public in over 25 locations throughout St. Johns County.

The St. Johns County Adopt-A-Road program provides an opportunity for residents, businesses, nonprofits, and community groups to adopt sections of county road and help remove litter and debris in an effort to keep St. Johns County beautiful.
