In just a few weeks, we will kick off National Volunteer Week, celebrated from April 19 to 25. It’s a special time to recognize and honour the remarkable impact volunteers have on our community.
This year’s theme, “Ignite Volunteerism,” celebrates civic participation and sends a message to encourage our residents to become volunteers. We’re sharing inspiring stories and saying thanks to the thousands of people who freely give their time and energy for good causes in our town.
As mayor, I was delighted this week to give the Key to the Town to Nicola Gauntley as she was named by the Georgetown Lions Club as this year’s Citizen of the Year. Nicola has volunteered in our schools for over a decade, particularly helping kids with writing and reading.

The Town of Halton Hills Reminds Property Owners to Properly Drain their Swimming Pools during Spring Opening.
The Town of Halton Hills reminds property owners to properly drain their swimming pools during Spring opening.
Pool water should be discharged using a hose directed either to the roadside gutter, ditch at the front of the property, or directly into the municipal storm drainage system. This ensures compliance with municipal standards and helps prevent damage to neighbouring properties or Town infrastructure.
For detailed guidance, please refer to the Pool Owner’s Guide available through the Town’s Building Services Division.

Let's Talk project pageGeorgetown GO Station Area/ Mill Street Corridor Secondary Plan Review
A Secondary Plan Review is underway for the Georgetown GO Station Area and Mill Street Corridor. Originally adopted in 2010 through Official Plan Amendment 7, the plan guides redevelopment and intensification while maintaining and enhancing existing neighbourhoods. The review will focus on balancing growth with the preservation of low‑density areas, exploring opportunities for transit‑oriented development near the GO Station, and aligning with the Mill Street Corridor Precinct Neighbourhood Study.
The project will take place over four phases over approximately two years and will include multiple opportunities for public engagement, with a revised Secondary Plan informed by community input and technical studies.
As part of the Secondary Plan Review for the Georgetown GO Station Protected Major Transit Station Area, the following public events are planned:
-
April 20, 2026 – Special Meeting of Council
-
May 7, 2026 – Public Open House
Learn more at the Let’s Talk Project page.
