Celebrate July 3rd and 4th at Herreshoff in Bristol Fashion

Tradition...Community...Great fun.  These traditions are 229 years strong in the longest running July 4th celebration in the country.   The sense of pride and patriotism in our town is a community affair -Americana at its epicenter.  Join us at the Herreshoff Marine Museum where our waterfront campus is in the heart of the action.  Whether you come by land or sea, we offer a fun, convenient and historic location for friends and family to gather and partake in the festivities. We have planned a great evening on the 3rd of July followed by light breakfast and parade viewing on the 4th.  Click here to see details and purchase your tickets.  Tickets include Museum admission. ...

Herreshoff 12 Centennial Gala

The May 31 Herreshoff 12 Centennial Gala was a beautiful and fun evening with 150 guests attending.  The weather cooperated and thanks to Exquisite Events the tent was transformed into a magic party venue. The dinner menu was catered by Russell Morins and the band's irresistible rhythms attracted most of us to the dance floor while the sun was setting over Bristol Harbor. Thank you all who participated as a guest, donor, or vendor in this successful fund raising event which netted over $65,000 to the Museum.

Herreshoff 2014 Challenge Grant

We called- and you responded!  Our challenge grant which we described in the previous newsletter requires us to have received donations by July 19 in order to qualify for the maximum match. We are happy to report that the response has been enthusiastic, and as of today we have earned over $85,000, and are very hopeful that with your help we will meet the $100,000 goal in time. If you have not yet donated, there is no time like now to ensure that we are successful in meeting this challenge.  Thank you all for your support!

Youth Seamanship Program has begun!

Session I of the Seamanship Program began this week with a beautiful day for sailing. The students have been learning the basics of sailing and all around seamanship. The gorgeous weather this week allowed for students to get on the water sailing. For some, this was their very first time sailing. The first week has been a huge success. The students are enjoying their time sailing and learning about seamanship. Space is still available for Session III & V.

The Nia & Pinta visit to HMM

The Nia & Pinta 'sailing museum' was a wonderful compliment to the sailing history of the Herreshoff Museum from June 6th - 8th. The crowds of families and individuals brought enthusiasm and eagerness for learning to both attractions. HMM offered a reduced admission ticket for adults and families for visitors who purchased tickets for the Nia & Pinta. The attractive discount generated additional admission tickets over the three day weekend making for a busy and successful weekend.

Citizens Rejoice as the Ancient Town of Bristol is Protected from Fire

The above are the words the Boston Globe used to describe the delighted citizens of Bristol following the March 15, 1876 test of the town's new fire protection system.  Drawing water through pipes to the harbor the new system attained a steady fire main pressure of 125 psi within 6 minutes of the alarm to light the new Herreshoff Patented Safety Coil Boiler. It placed Bristol at the forefront of American cities that would opt for the new technology and the envy of a less well-protected city of London. ...
