News from our Education Department
When people learn to sail they gain access to the majority of the planet, the part covered with water. Sailing Students experience great freedom as they learn their way around the harbor. As they learn to handle themselves and their boats safely on the water, they acquire a new interest, which in many cases, will provide them with happy hours during the rest of their lives, and they benefit most from being exposed to an experience which some educators feel is the best available means of developing self reliance.

110 Years Ago- RELIANCE and the 1903 America's Cup
Thursday May 28, 1903
In tune-up races held at the head of the Sound for the America's Cup RELIANCE beat COLUMBIA, while CONSTITUTION's topmast broke after the yacht had sailed nine miles of the course. CONSTITUTION was giving RELIANCE a "hard rub" and both yachts had reached a turning point. The starboard topmast spreader failed causing the topmast to buckle and then snap.

New Posts on The RELIANCE Project Blog
Building continues as we lay out all the fittings that go on deck.
...We have beautiful cleats from J. M. Reineck done in his business shop on a CAD machine with all the machine tools and jigs to make many parts exactly the same, including posts to fasten these cleats to the deck. On the other hand, we have exquisite craftsman-made parts from Mike Mirman in his home shop.
