So far in 2025 we’ve seen floods, fires, winter storms, tornados, extreme heat, earthquakes, and, of course, there are hurricanes still yet to come. No other industry is expected to reliably and affordably operate a massive infrastructure 24/7/365 that supplies a product essential to the everyday lives of their customers, while facing such a persistent and intense barrage of environmental challenges.
I continue to be both amazed and impressed with the skill and commitment that all of you bring to this critical mission every single day. Not only do you “keep the lights on,” despite Mother Nature’s mercurial wrath, but you are also concurrently responding to unprecedented growth in demand, increasing customer expectations, and rapidly evolving technology that offers unprecedented levels of both risk and reward.
Frankly, our political and business leaders, and even the public we serve, routinely and significantly undervalue and under appreciate the monumental efforts it takes to operate today’s complex grid. Like you, this just motivates me to work even harder. In fact, our entire team at AEIC—from board members to committee leaders to staff—is working harder than ever to ensure that we continue to provide the forums, resources, and opportunities that enable our members to collectively and collaboratively lead our industry at this time of seismic change and challenge.
My hope is that your participation in AEIC allows you to expand and strengthen your network of industry peers, and that the expertise you share and best practices you exchange helps to make your job a little bit easier and a lot more rewarding.
Over the next few months, AEIC members will have several opportunities to participate in our growing number of committees, our Center for Operational Excellence workshops, our member spotlights, and our Annual Meeting.
I strongly encourage you to join us this year in Charleston, SC for our 141st AEIC Annual Meeting, hosted by Santee Cooper, from November 4-6, 2025. Our theme will be “Elevating Excellence.” Your participation is key to meaningful engagement and to the critical exchange of knowledge that makes AEIC the industry’s go-to resource for operational leadership. Our annual meeting is also a time for us to pause and celebrate your successes and highlight innovative and award-winning projects that demonstrate all the ways AEIC members are indeed elevating excellence throughout the industry.
Please register now for the annual meeting and take advantage of our “buy one-get one” (BOGO) offer for members at AEIC2025.org. I look forward to seeing you in Charleston!
Steve

In the coming months, we will share her observations and insights, beginning with the very first Association meeting in 1885, and moving through the past 141 years to the present day role our organization and member companies play in continuing to lead the industry in all areas of operational excellence.
