As we move into May, Commissioner Joel G. Flores and the District 3 team continue to build on the progress and productivity achieved in April. With the spring season well underway, we remain focused on advancing key initiatives and delivering meaningful results for the residents of District 3 and Palm Beach County. We are grateful for your continued support, and are pleased to share recent developments, accomplishments, and upcoming projects across our community.

Commissioner Joel G. Flores honored at the Triunfo Gala:

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Triunfo Gala on April 26, with the theme "Noche de Cultura: Celebrating Hispanic Culture." The event honored County Commissioner Joel Flores as the first Hispanic commissioner in Palm Beach County. The evening featured live music, and cultural performances. A portion of the proceeds went to the Luciano “Lou” Martinez Scholarship Fund, supporting Hispanic high school seniors pursuing higher education.

New D3 office in Palm Springs:

During the month of April, we had a great turnout at our new District 3 office in the Village of Palm Springs. It's great to have a dedicated space to help our constituents. Every other Wednesday, Dianni Mendez our Director of Constituent Services will be working in our District Office located at The Village of Palm Springs - 226 Cypress Lane Palm Springs, FL, 33461. Our hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Appointments are preferred but walk-in's are welcomed. Please email District3@pbc.org to schedule.

Pathways to Certification:

The D3 office in partnership with the Office of Equal Business Opportunity hosted, "Pathway To Certification," a two-part workshop to help local minority businesses get certified with Palm Beach County. We had a great response and plan to ride on this wave and create more of these events.

Tours and Visits:

Commissioner Flores and his team continued his outreach across the county with visits to several municipalities. These tours provide meaningful insight into the challenges and accomplishments shaping our region. Team Flores toured the Town of Glen Ridge and the Town of Cloud Lake.

The Commissioner also visited the Palm Beach Zoo where he was greeted by the professional staff who demonstrated various skills on how to care and maintain the facility for the constituents who visit the zoo in Palm Beach Cunty.

Proclamations:

At the BCC meeting on April 1, 2025, the Commissioner presented a proclamation declaring April 6, 2025, as National Libraries Day. PBC Libraries have been providing free access to resources and services that reflect and engage the county's diverse communities, offering activities that stimulate and enrich individuals from early literacy through adulthood for over 55 years.

Commissioner Flores also presented a proclamation declaring April 22, 2025 as Earth Day. This year marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day, a national day to focus on the environment.

Community Engagement:

-Commissioner Flores enjoyed spending time with students at Joaquin Garcia Highschool. He also attended the dedication of the Midwestern Community Building in memory of Mayor Fred Pinto.

Commissioner's Spotlight: Palm Beach Zoo

The Palm Beach Zoo has grown remarkably over the past 50 years, transforming from a modest red barn with a handful of farm animals into one of West Palm Beach’s top recreational destinations. Located in Dreher Park—once called Bacon Park, the zoo took a significant step in 2014, by rebranding itself as the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society.

Here are some fun facts about the Palm Beach Zoo:

🐾 The zoo is home to over 500 animals from around the world, including endangered species.

🌳 It spans 23 acres within the beautiful Dreher Park, in the heart of West Palm Beach.

🌎 In 2014, it rebranded as the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society to highlight its global conservation mission.

🐅 You can see fascinating animals like jaguars, flamingos, anteaters, and titi monkeys.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 It welcomes around 300,000 visitors each year.

🌿 The zoo actively participates in conservation and education programs to protect wildlife.

💧 Animal habitats are designed to closely resemble their natural environments.

🎓 It offers educational programs, camps, and interactive experiences for kids and adults.
