DERBY, VERMONT - Sap has begun to flow in the Kingdom. One thing's certain in this crazy time, High Spring is riding hard to the rescue with fields and fields of Dandelions trumpeting a new world soon upon us. A time to run. Just for the Fun of It.
We are hard at it planning to host our Annual Dandelion Run on May 22nd, 2021, as a small group, socially distanced event like we did Fly to Pie last Fall. The current plan is to limit the number of runners/walkers to 100, with face masks required before the start and after the finish. And we are strongly encouraging all who can, to GET THE JAB for your safety and the safety of all. We will be taking advantage of our experience running socially distanced events last year. We will be nimble, flexible and fierce, adjusting to circumstances as we find them in May.
At the request of some who "joined" us last year for the Virtual Dandy, we will be adding a virtual option to this year’s event. YES. The Dandy will be run as BOTH an in-person event and a virtual event as well. A Hybrid.
As to our Virtual Dandy, we will open it on Saturday May 15th and close it on Sunday May 23. You can walk, run, bike, kayak, and/or row your miles and contribute $1 a mile to Umbrella. This year there will be a minimum fee of $35. We will be giving all virtual (and actual) participants a T Shirt and a participation woodal. Your fee, after covering our expenses, will be donated to Umbrella,
which provides advocacy and support to victims of domestic and interpersonal violence.
We hold this run annually in honor and in memory of Terri Weed, a 15-year-old, who was killed by her boyfriend 30 years ago on May 21, 1981. And we celebrate the much maligned, free range flower, the Dandelion.
We have already lined up musicians to play along the route and back at the Beach House following the run. We have lined up the Dandies to make their return and join the Grand Celebration of the coming of High Spring in the Kingdom. A most beautiful flower and most wonderful time of year as our world comes alive after a long, long winter.
