Dean Commencement 2025


Dean held its 159th Commencement Ceremony on May 10th, where 246 students graduated and officially became members of the Dean Alumni Association. Please help us welcome the Class of 2025!

Class of 1975 Joins 50th Society

Members of the Class of 1975 were welcomed into the 50th Society at Dean's 159th Commencement Exercises on May 10th. The inductees were robed in academic regalia, marched in the processional, and were formally inducted into Dean's 50th Society.

Student Journalist Covers NASA/SpaceX Launch

Maximilian Kent, an Arts Leadership major at Dean College, recently traveled to Cape Canaveral, FL, to cover the joint NASA/SpaceX Crew-10 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) for The Dean Daily.

Remembering Robert Villiard, Professor Emeritus


Bob Villiard, named a professor emeritus at Dean after a long career that included being appointed head of the Math/Science department, passed away in December.

Familiar Faces Assume New Roles at Dean

The Board of Trustees has unanimously selected Darrell Kulesza to assume the position of interim president for the remainder of the search process for a permanent College president.


Darrell has been with Dean for 17 years, most recently in the role of Vice President of Campus Operations and CIO. His deep and tenured experience in our community and extensive and diverse knowledge of Dean, will help prepare the institution for its next chapter.


Mark Boyce has moved to a strategic advisory role supporting the Board and the College until September 2025. 

Dr. Scott Sibley, Vice President of Academic Affairs, will now serve as Dean College’s first Provost.


Scott has extensive experience in academic management, curriculum development, and institutional leadership and is a passionate advocate for our faculty and our academic mission.


His myriad skills will also support our renewed institutional advancement efforts, bringing forth new synergy, energy, and collaboration in this key growth opportunity for Dean.

Following a national search, Stephen Ursprung has been appointed Dean of the Schools of Performing Arts, which includes the Joan Phelps Palladino School of Dance and the School of the Arts.


Stephen joined the Dean College performing arts faculty in 2016 and was chosen to serve as interim Assistant Dean last year. He has worked tirelessly to elevate student voices, strengthen academic programs, and develop partnerships to support student learning and professional growth.


Jim Beauregard, who served as Interim Dean of the Schools over the past year while the search was being conducted, will continue to contribute to Dean as a valued faculty member and advisor.

Theatre Alumni Reception & Molière Double Feature on Saturday June 7


Dean theatre alumni are invited back to campus for a special alumni reception and outdoor performances of two rollicking Molière farces, The Doctor in Spite of Himself and The Flying Doctor. Check your inbox for your invitation to the reception.

 

After light refreshments, you’ll enjoy a “pay-what-you-can” lawn performance featuring a company of 10 talented Dean theatre majors who will be headlining both performances. Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chair.


In the spirit of making the arts accessible, this show operates on a pay‑what‑you‑can basis – perfect for families and first‑time theatre‑goers alike.

 

RSVPs are required for the reception at 6:30 p.m.; the performance at 7:30 p.m. is open to the public.
