Brand New Residency Program in Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences

Last week, the Department of Head and Neck Surgery & Communication Sciences held interviews for their new Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency program. They received approval this year from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education for two PGY-1 positions for the inaugural class to begin July 2025.

 

Joseph Vella, MD, PhD, FACS, an assistant professor and chief of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and co-director of the Rutgers Cleft and Craniofacial Center at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, will serve as the program director of the residency program.

Dr. Gloria Bachmann Joins State-Sponsored One Health Task Force

Gloria Bachmann, MD, professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences, and associate dean of women's health at the medical school, has been invited to take part in the first New Jersey One Health Task Force (OHTF). The creation of the task force was announced by Ed Wengryn, the secretary of agriculture for the state of New Jersey, in conjunction with January being named One Health Awareness Month.


The goal of the OHTF is to develop a strategic plan to promote interdisciplinary communication and collaboration among physicians, veterinarians, and other scientific professionals and state agencies, and to promote the health and well-being of New Jersey residents.

New Study Shows Tighter Blood Pressure Control Can Reduce Postpartum Emergency Department Visits for Moms with Hypertensive Disorders

A new study published in JACC: Advances shows that mothers with hypertension who receive postpartum treatment are less likely to visit the emergency room. Robert Wood Johnson Medical School faculty involved in the study included Emily B. Rosenfeld, MD (pictured); Deepika Sagaram, MD; Cande V.
