Celebrating the First African-American Female Physician
|
|
Born in Delaware, Rebecca Davis would grow up to become the first African-American female physician in the United States, graduating from New England Female Medical College in Boston as Rebecca Lee Crumpler in 1964.
In honor of Dr. Lee,
Patricia Whitley-Williams, MD
, associate dean for inclusion and diversity, and a native of Boston, formed the Atlanta African-American Female Physicians group while on faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine and named it the Rebecca Lee Society in honor of Dr. Crumpler. The organization includes more than 500 black physicians in the Atlanta metropolitan area today. Great work, Dr. Whitley-Williams!

Robert Wood Johnson Medical School enjoyed a visit from Wolcott twice this month, as a kick-off to the medical school's pet therapy program. Wolcott, a German Shepard volunteer, and Katie, his trainer, visited
Clinical Academic Building
waiting areas, bringing calm and joy to patients, faculty and staff, alike.
Katie and Wolcott will be visiting every other Monday, with their next visit expected on March 9, and we are recruiting more pet therapy volunteers.
