Class of 2020 Graduates During Virtual Ceremony
|
|
Congratulations to the 160 new physicians who graduated on Monday as part of the
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Class of 2020 Convocation
! Held during a virtual event on Rutgers iTV Livestream platform, the class was honored by
Robert L. Johnson, MD, FAAP,
interim dean, and
Brian L. Strom, MD, MPH
, chancellor of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.
Darrell
G. Kirch, MD,
president emeritus of the Association of American Medical Colleges, gave the keynote address, which was followed by
Vijay Putatunda
, the student class president, who gave the student address. The assistant deans for students affairs:

, each gave congratulatory remarks before

, assistant professor of emergency medicine, led the Class of 2020 in reading the Hippocratic Oath.

Dr. Siddiqui Named Assistant Dean of Safety, Quality and Clinical Affairs
|
|
Sheraz Siddiqui, MD
, associate professor of family medicine and community health, has been appointed assistant dean of safety, quality and clinical affairs. Dr. Siddiqui has served as the division chief for hospital medicine in the
Department of Family Medicine and Community Health
for the past five years, and during that time has substantially grown the service at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. He has also successfully collaborated with multiple specialties and services and decreased hospital length of stay.
In his new role, Dr. Siddiqui will work closely with the senior associate dean of safety, quality and clinical affairs on a broad range of internal and external activities related to the clinical mission of the school. His role focuses on planning, developing, directing and improving patient care coordination across the continuum of care.
Dr. Siddiqui has also been appointed to serve as chief for the hospitalist medicine service at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and working with hospital leadership will develop and direct Robert Wood Johnson Medical School's hospitalist services. He will be responsible for coordinating, and improving care delivery of the inpatient hospitalist service, and post discharge care coordination. Dr. Siddiqui will work closely with the departments of Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and the community to develop systems of care that integrate hospitalist services to maximize efficiency and improve the safety and quality of patient care. Dr. Siddique assumed his new role prior to the healthcare crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus, and has worked diligently during this time with the hospitalist teams covering COVID-positive patients.

HIPHOP Partners with Archangel Raphael's Mission to Provide Handwashing Stations
|
|
On Mother’s Day, faculty, staff and students who volunteer through the Homeless and Indigent Population Health Outreach Program (HIPHOP) joined Archangel Raphael’s Mission, Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, Ethnos New Brunswick, the United Methodist Church at New Brunswick and American Reentry Initiative to launch the state's first mobile handwashing station. Located in front of the United Methodist Church on George Street the location provides hygiene access through the mobile hand-washing stations, care packages, health education, free masks and more. The coalition was brought together in response to the public health implications of city-wide closures.
