 Grizzly support for Jonathan Annicks
In 2016, Jonathan Annicks ('16) stepped out from his home to get his phone charger from the family car. Without reason, warning, or provocation, he was shot by an unknown man and is now paralyzed from the chest down. Jonathan is known to his friends and fellow Grizzlies as an adventurous, physically active guy who loves the Blackhawks (he coached youth hockey), and loves school - he is now attending DePaul University.

The Payton community has joined the effort to insure he has what he needs to face this challenge by contributing to an online crowd-sourced medical fund, the goal of which is to secure continuing medical care, physiotherapy, rehabilitative therapy, medical equipment, and other necessities to Jonathan's recovery. Please consider participating in the effort by visiting Friends of Jonathan Annicks to make a donation.
two more ways to
stay current

Check the school website periodically (some people set a reminder on their calendars to do this once or twice a week) at www.wpcp.org.

Two other ways to keep up on what's happening at school are to watch the PNN (Payton News Network) OR check Advisory Announcements.

You can also subscribe to receive the announcements via email or RSS.
check grades & attendance online

ParentConnection is a secure online portal for sharing classroom attendance and grades between teachers, students, and parents and guardians.

To activate a student on your ParentConnection account you must obtain the student personal identification number (PIN), which you can do on this web page on the Payton site.

Once you have obtained the PIN you will be able to complete the application process. If you experience any problems while looking up a PIN, please email

when your student is sick or absent for another reason
To report your student's absence you must submit a written note, available on the website under the Parents drop down menu. Or you may click here for  Reason For Absence Note. Student absences will remain unexcused until a signed Reason For Absence Note is submitted to the Office.

A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Volunteers: Thank you for answering call!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are truly very blessed at Payton to have so many involved and dynamic parents who wrap their minds, arms, and energies around the school's purposes. Nurturing adolescents from childhood into young adulthood is exciting work and it takes many persons to do so effectively.  Wholehearted and sincere thanks to the many, many parents who:
  • Volunteered at Open House: Thousands of Payton aspirants came to see what we do and how we do it. They saw examples of learning activities from every academic discipline, as well as clubs, academic and athletic teams, special education, counseling, and more. They learned about our college preparatory curriculum -Seminars, Enrichments, Advisory program - about our stellar visual and performing arts programs, about our well-equipped science laboratories, including 1:1 computing, the greenhouse, astronomy lab, and on and on. Most importantly, visitors were able to speak to the hundreds of persons on campus - students, faculty and staff, and parents- about what makes Payton special and unique. The fact that there were so many parents on hand to showcase our school speaks to the type of community we have created and value.
  • Purchased from the teacher Wish List: These items allow our teachers to continue to develop the curriculum in fresh ways. Your support of our teacher-led initiatives is very much recognized and is meaningful to the academic health of the school. In a similar vein, thanks to the many parents who have thus far supported the Annual Appeal.  We genuinely need and appreciate your support.
  • Support our students, faculty, and programs in so many dimensions: We see you cheering on students in athletic and academic competitions, arranging end-of-season banquets, opening your home to host events or study groups, assisting in impactful ways with some of our more vulnerable students, offering sincere appreciation to faculty for what they do, creating wonderful experiences for our students like Midnight Madness, Homecoming Week, and chaperoning, volunteering in parent organizations like FOP, Boosters and the LSC, and, importantly, loving your child.
It is an honor and a privilege to serve with so many talented, dedicated, and loving people.  You remind me time and time again of how beautiful the world actually is...a world of kind and committed adults who genuinely support our dreaming and growing youth.

Let's keep building.

Go Grizzlies!

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT
Universal supports at Payton

Dr. Erica Bauer, Director of Student Engagement

Hello Grizzly parents and guardians,

What follows is brought to you by School Psychologist, Leah Ruzich (lmdiedrich@cps.edu):

The high school years are a time of massive social and emotional growth. We understand that at Payton, which is why we've implemented a series of Universal Supports. Universal means they're available to every student when they walk through Payton's doors. Ask your child about them.

If they're struggling with an assignment, ask if they've used the "Grizzly Tools for Success," posted in every classroom (see below).

See if you notice them identifying a broader spectrum of emotions from using the "Mood Meter" in class (see below).

Ask them after a Seminar Day what was discussed during the long advisory program. Check to make sure they know who their counselor is and that they know they can go to him or her for social and emotional support, not just when it comes time to talk college. If they need a break from all the hustle & bustle during the day, make sure they know the library is a quiet zone during lunch periods. And, finally, take a minute every day to pause, take a few deep breaths, and reflect on the day with your child, just like we do during the Payton Pause.

Bridging practice between home and school reinforces positive social skills and emotional health. If you have questions about Universal Supports at Payton, contact Erica Bauer, Director of Student Engagement, ( edbauer@cps.edu ) or Molly Spooner, Director of Social Emotional Learning ( mespooner@cps.edu ).

Mark your calendars for our annual Parent-Teen Conference from Noon to 2PM, Saturday, March 3. Lunch will be included. This conference is designed to explore topics identified and presented by teens. Stay tuned for more details.

We are different. We are one. We are Payton.

Please contact me with any questions at   edbauer@cps.edu.
