A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The Christmas story delights me in so many ways. I enjoy its message of hope, wonder, and a star. As a surveyor, I cannot help but feel a kinship to those men traveling so far. Many surveyors have traveled far following a star for direction. Their minds, too, filled with hope and wonder, opening up new frontiers, and giving people the opportunity for a new life.

I wish you the best of times with your family and friends during this holiday season and the happiest of new year!

Annette Hovorka
President, CLSA
CALTRANS DISTRICT 3 IS HIRING
There are multiple positions available in District 3 for Office Processing and Advanced Technology.
PASSING OF SURVEYOR, MARK LEWIS, PLS 6631
Mark Allen Lewis, PLS 6631 of Paso Robles passed away on November 30, 2019. Mark had been an active CLSA Central Coast Chapter member for many years and served as President of the chapter in 2013. Mark was a friend to many, a memorable character and a well respected hard working Professional Land Surveyor.
NSPS YOUNG SURVEYOR'S NETWORK -- NEW WEBSITE
The NSPS Young Surveyor’s Network is proud to present our new website, www.youngsurveyors.org. We worked with myheartcreative, an Oklahoma web design company with a history of working with surveyors, to develop a site that will give our current and prospective members all the information they need to stay connected. The new site will also allow individual state representatives to control their content and post events.

The definition of a Young Surveyor is someone under the age of 35 or who earned their Degree within the past ten years. All surveyors, regardless of licensure, however, are welcome to join, but the focus will remain on supporting those new to the industry.

We would like to ask anyone who would like to join or may have joined in the past to join on the new site as we are rebuilding our membership list using an easier to manage system. This should allow for better organization and quicker mobilization on those issues important to us.

SANTIAGO CANYON COLLEGE SURVEY COURSE
Santiago Canyon College will be offering "Survey Mapping in Civil 3D" on Saturdays, 9am-3:30pm from February 1 - March 28, 2020.

CLICK HERE or on flyer for details.

The Surveying and Mapping department at Santiago Canyon College continues to grow as we passionately educate, equip, and empower the Land Surveyors of tomorrow. In an effort to do our part in educating the future Land Surveying workforce in the State of California, the department has firmly focused on developing online curriculum to reach as many students as possible across the State. Our goal is to help these students accomplish three things:

1. Job placement (new position or promotion)
2. Pass the LSIT exam
3. Acquire all the foundation information needed to begin study preparations for both the National and State LS exams in California

We are excited to announce that our Advance Problems in Surveying courses (221 & 222) are going to be offered 100% online this coming year in 2020. These courses are instrumental in preparing for the LSIT examination, in that they teach on the concepts of:
1. Error Theory
2. Geodesy
3. GNSS
4. State Plane Coordinates
5. Route/Construction Survey
6. Photogrammetry

We have received continual feedback from our students that Survey 221 and 222 have played a large role in passing their LSIT examination. As you and I both know, an LSIT is required by many public agencies to compete for certain Surveying positions. With Survey 221 and 222 going online, we will now be able to help many more students position themselves to compete for the wonderful positions offered by agencies such as the County of Orange and Caltrans!
