FDA Approves Second COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Dose for Immunocompromised Individuals and Older Adults

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized a second booster dose of either the Pfizer-BioNTech or the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for older people and certain immunocompromised individuals on March 29.

The FDA previously authorized a single booster dose for certain immunocompromised individuals following completion of a three-dose primary vaccination series. This authorization will now make a second booster dose of these vaccines available to those populations at higher risk for severe disease, hospitalization and death.

Emerging evidence suggests that a second booster dose of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine improves protection against severe COVID-19 and is not associated with new safety concerns.

DelcoPA Covid Quilt Project Memorializes Those Lost to COVID-19

Over the past two years, over 1,800 Delaware County residents have lost their lives to COVID-19. Sadly, many of their loved ones did not have the opportunity to attend viewings or funerals to say goodbye and to pay tribute.

To help bring healing to the many grieving families, loved ones, and the community, and to celebrate and memorialize the lives of those lost to COVID-19, a group of Delaware County volunteers has created the DelcoPA Covid Quilt Project.

The project—started by long-time Delaware County volunteers Judy McKinney and Barbara Smith, and supported by members of the Brandywine Valley Quilters and the Undercover Quilters guilds—provides a way to honor those we have lost on an 8”x 8” Memorial Square which will be combined into a much larger quilt. Once completed, each quilt will be on display at public venues throughout Delaware County for the community to visit, reflect, and pay tribute.

Families can create their own Memorial Square or can send materials & memorabilia to the DelcoPA Covid Quilt Project and request a Memorial Square to be created for them.

Words or art that describe the loved one can be incorporated onto the Memorial Square. The DelcoPA Covid Quilt is an art display, and contributors are welcome to provide personal and creative designs and materials.

Residents interested in remembering their loved ones and participating in the quilt project can visit the DelcoPA Covid Quilt Project website and complete a Memorial Square Submission Form.

Delaware County Marks 110th Anniversary of Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania

Girls Scouts Buffer.jpg

Delaware County Councilwoman Christine Reuther and Delaware County Controller Joanne Phillips (both former Girl Scouts) were honored to join local Girl Scout troops 51686, 51522, 52061, and 5357 to mark the 110th Anniversary of Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania. As a former Girl Scout and Troop Leader, Councilwoman Reuther talked to the girls about how the Girl Scouts have helped her throughout her life, giving her the confidence to stand up for what she believes in. Councilwoman Reuther presented the troops with a resolution recognizing the 110th anniversary.

Juliette Gordon Low, also known as Daisy, founded the Girl Scouts in 1912 in her hometown of Savannah, Georgia, where the first troop was made up of 18 girls who shared a sense of curiosity and a belief that they could do anything. Since its founding in 1912, Girl Scouts has emphasized public service and civic engagement, and has fostered a sense of community in girls.

Girl Scouts works to champion the ambitions, cultivate the talents, and develop the skills of girls to confidently pursue their passions and make the world a better place.

Congratulations to the Girl Spouts on your 110th birthday!
