History Tastes Sweet

Do you want to enjoy a taste of history in your own backyard? Try planting the same fruit trees that Jesuit missionaries did many centuries ago! Some of the most unique plants featured at this year's Plant Sale are the heritage food plants. These include fig trees, pomegranate trees, grape vines, and more. The Desert Museum has been working to collect heritage plants since 2003 through the Kino Heritage Fruit Trees Project. You can buy your very own fruit tree this weekend.  Taste History!

Our Newest Addition

We welcomed the first (official) day of fall by planting a 21-foot saguaro cactus this morning! Earlier this week, Sun Corridor Inc. sent Amazon this prickly plant to show Tucson's interest in housing Amazon's second headquarters. Amazon tweeted "unfortunately we can't accept gifts (even really cool ones)," and donated the green giant to us! You can view the captivating cactus near our front entrance. You can also purchase your own saguaro at our Plant Sale this weekend.  See the Saguaro!

Flower Friday

This bizarre bloom belongs to the popular and purple Passionfruit vine (Passiflora edulis). Not only is this decorative plant a perfect addition to your balcony or fence, it serves as a pollinator pad for butterflies and bees! You can also enjoy mouthwatering fruit starting in the summertime. These vines love to climb and can reach at least 8 feet across and just as high. You can purchase these pretty plants (and many others) at our Plant Sale this weekend.  Dig Deeper!
