COVID-19 Vaccines - New Guidance Re: "Booster" Doses

Based on the recently updated FDA and CDC guidance, the GW MFA COVID-19 vaccine clinic is offering additional doses of mRNA vaccine to immunocompromised patients who meet CDC ACIP criteria or upon the recommendation of their physician. We anticipate further federal guidance on vaccine “booster” doses for additional categories of previously vaccinated people in the near future, and will be updating our practice accordingly.

COVID-19 Vaccination Now Mandatory

On August 16, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that all healthcare workers in the District of Columbia are required to get at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or the one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine by September 30, 2021. GW Hospital is following this mandate and requiring that all employees get their COVID-19 vaccine as outlined above by September 30, 2021. Non-compliance will impact your ability to be licensed by DC Health or employed by GW Hospital.

As a reminder, we have both the Pfizer and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine available in Employee Health. You can schedule your vaccination Monday – Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. here: https://calendly.com/gwmedicalenterprise1/covid19vaccine?month=2021-06.

These vaccines have been shown to be safe and highly effective at preventing serious illness or death from COVID-19. If you have concerns about the vaccine, please speak with your supervisor, Employee Health or a vaccine ambassador – as identified by the hospital ID badges. In addition, you can find more information about the vaccines here:

If you have a religious or medical exemption, please contact Employee Health. If you have a medical exemption, please contact Employee Health.
