REMINDER: Guidance on Seeing Patients with Recent Positive COVID-19 Test - (Linked) - Updated on Sept. 2. 2021

GW Hospital

COVID-19 Vaccination Mandatory By September 30, 2021

On August 16, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that all healthcare workers in the District of Columbia are required to get at least the first dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or the one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine by September 30, 2021. GW Hospital is following this mandate and requiring that all employees get their COVID-19 vaccine as outlined above by September 30, 2021. Non-compliance will impact your ability to be licensed by DC Health or employed by GW Hospital.

As a reminder, we have both the Pfizer and the Johnson and Johnson vaccine available in Employee Health. You can schedule your vaccination Monday – Friday, 7:45 a.m. – 1:45 p.m. here: https://calendly.com/gwmedicalenterprise1/covid19vaccine?month=2021-06.

If you have a religious or medical exemption, please contact Employee Health.

Booster Shots Now Available for Immunocompromised

The CDC recommends that individuals who are moderately to severely immunocompromised receive an additional dose of an mRNA COVID-19 Vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) at least 28 days after the completion of the initial mRNA COVID-19 vaccine series. This includes people who have:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

At this time, the third dose is only being recommended for this specific population of individuals. GW Hospital is now offering third dose shots of the Pfizer vaccine in employee health for immunocompromised individuals only. If you received Moderna and meet this criteria, please contact your physician or the location of where you received your vaccine.

If you meet this criteria, you can now schedule your booster shot in Employee Health here: https://calendly.com/gwmedicalenterprise1/covid19vaccine?month=2021-06. In order to support the flow of individuals, you must make an appointment for your shot. Please bring your COVID-19 vaccination card with you so that we can update this.

If you received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, there is not a recommendation to get a booster shot at this time.
