Workshop Theme:
What Is the Language of Dignity?
In our community, people speak many different languages, yet we are all joined in our efforts to practice a shared language,
the language of dignity
. Our theme this year — “What is the language of dignity?” — is an invitation to think deeply about what communicates dignity in our lives, in our communities, and in the world.
Many Ways to Connect and Contribute
Whether you join us as a creative contributor, a supporter, an active listener, a moderator, a dialogue facilitator, or in some other collaborative capacity, we want to emphasize that everyone in the workshop plays an important role in creating a climate of connection and mutual learning on the path to dignity.

as Part of the Open Recognition Week
|
Victoria Fontan, global scholar and author of the groundbreaking book
Decolonizing Peace, honored the HumanDHS community with a tribute as part of Open Recognition Week, October 22-28, 2018.
In her words, "the Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies network has placed the study and promotion of human dignity at the forefront of many academic disciplines... The network has been walking the talk of human dignity and, by recognizing everyone of its members as an equal contributor, has contributed to creating a world where dignity is recognized as being paramount to humanity."

The Human Climate, Carol Smaldino brings a developmental approach to her work as a psychotherapist. A
Huffington Post contributor 2008 – 2017, her blogs explore the connections between emotions and social/political issues.
This book helps the reader explore
the human climate—the personal, social, and emotional context in which we live. The author suggests that in order to face the divisions inside us and between us, we need to come to better terms with our own emotions. It will be released by Dignity Press in January 2019.

Congratulations to Maureen Duffy and
David Yamada (pictured) for publishing a remarkable, comprehensive resource for understanding damaging relationships in the workplace: "Offering multidisciplinary research and analysis on workplace bullying and mobbing, this two-volume set explores the prevalence of these behaviors in sectors ranging from K–12 education to corporate environments and exposes the damaging effects of workplace bullying on both individuals and organizations."
Maureen Duffy is a preeminent authority on workplace mobbing behaviors. David Yamada is a highly esteemed member of the HumanDHS Board of Directors and a distinguished scholar of the law who writes a popular blog:

Leading with Dignity: How to Create a Culture that Brings Out the Best in People

In
Leading with Dignity,
Donna Hicks argues that the extent to which leaders pay attention to, recognize, and understand the dignity concerns underlying people's grievances makes an enormous difference as to whether leaders can solve conflicts, have better relationships, and remedy toxic workplace cultures. Donna Hicks is an associate at Harvard's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, and she is on the Global Advisory Board for HumanDHS.

Thanks to all who were able to join us in September for our
2018 Dignity Conference in Cairo, Egypt
! The group co-created a breathtaking conference, full of passion and inspiration! The room was filled with dignity and generated lifelong connections! Once again, we made a great step toward building a global dignity family!
Please join us in expressing our deepest gratitude to
Ragnhild Nilsen
for being the inspirer of this conference! We are also deeply grateful to Regina Hanel, Konstanze and Helmy Abouleish, and all their wonderful friends who welcomed everybody so incredibly warmly and generously! What a privilege it was to be with you at our conference!
We will be updating the conference website and uploading the photos and videos soon. We are looking forward to sharing videos and pictures with our entire community! In the meantime, please have a look at the

We are so touched by how everyone at the conference practiced and manifested dignity! The conference realized the very dignity that we, as humankind, need if we wish to offer our children a decent future on our beautiful but finite Blue Planet!

The
World Dignity University initiative (WDUi) and the
Western Institute for Social Research
(WISR) are continuing their partnership by seeking three or more people who would like to study together as a cohort group pursuing BS, MS, or EdD degrees.
WISR is a degree-granting institution partnering with the WDUi, which enables members of the HumanDHS community to pursue the academic degrees in areas of their interest.
WISR’s mission is strongly compatible with the commitments and values of HumanDHS, the organizational home of the WDUi. WISR helps students build bridges toward their personal and professional goals through action projects, research, and writing that leads to a sustainable and just future for all.

Dignity Leadership Possibilities for You!
|
|
Are you looking for opportunities to make significant contributions to building a better world?
Please allow us to invite you to consider joining with us in our collaborative work for dignity!
All our dignity work is a
labor of love.
We are looking for visionary individuals who wish to make a substantial commitment, donating their full-time focus, expertise, and energy to help us increase dignity throughout the world
. This type of leadership involves practicing sophisticated dignity skills to encourage and inspire the efforts of our global members who wish to contribute, but have limited time available.
In particular, we invite those who would like to take on leadership roles supporting large-scale dignity projects, such as the
World Dignity University initiative
. We are extremely thankful to Uli Spalthoff for creating a wonderful platform for us, from which we can continue to grow into the future!
We warmly invite you to share your leadership skills by joining with us to build dignity in the world. Computer knowledge would be essential. Ideally, this might include knowledge of Joomla, the capability to program using Python, Django, databases, and html. A person who knows how to program in other computer languages could learn all of this within several weeks.
