Update from Chapter 48

Chapter 48 hosted a Director's mini food show on June 18, 2024 at Northwood Schools. The event had 70 people register. Four brokers presented on new or recently new items that are currently available, or will be coming available for the 2025 school year. Brian Davis and Misty Davis from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce presented topics on procurement and the administrative review.

SNA of Ohio East Central Regional Director: Deanne Kelbley

Deanne Kelbley is a Nutrition Services Supervisor for Amherst Exempted Village School District. She has been a part of this district for the past 6.5 years. Her favorite school meal is turkey chunks and gravy over mashed potatoes. Deanne is the Legislative Chair for SNA of Ohio and has been a member of SNA for 14 years. Deanne really enjoys her position on the SNA board. She explains, “The Legislative Chair is usually the first to know when new things are coming from the USDA, which is one reason I wanted to be in this position. I like being prepared for what's coming, and then I can share that information with my Lunch Ladies and the rest of Ohio. We all know people don't really like change, so why not get them prepared before it actually happens?

I also love organizing all of the Ohioans to lobby in Washington, DC every March. It is so rewarding when Congress hears and acts on our asks. 

I have worked with other organization to "Rally The Statehouse" in Columbus, and we did in March of 2023. Because of our efforts, we were able to get Gov. DeWine to agree to have Ohio pay for the students who qualify for Reduced-price meals. We will continue to Rally, and ask Ohio to pay for all students to eat for free!” Her favorite memory from an SNA Ohio even is in March 2020, they celebrated the 1920’s with International Food Solutions in DC during LAC!
