Greetings!

As an APS parent, April brings a few familiar signs—wild temperature swings, spring break, and plenty of pollen. It’s also a reminder that the end of the school year is just around the corner.

Over the past few months, as the APS delegate to the Invest Atlanta Board, I have been participating in discussions to further define the City's Neighborhood Reinvestment Initiative and, more importantly, APS's role in extending the TADs to help fund this work. While APS has not been presented with any specific proposals, I remain committed to ensuring that APS has the necessary resources to fulfill the obligations of our strategic plan: competitive teacher salaries, preschool in each elementary school, and key wraparound services. APS is developing an informational TAD landing page to clarify the implications. The Center for Civic Innovation provides a helpful TAD explainer and a description of the Neighborhood Reinvestment Commission.

Let's get to the updates:

  • April Board Meeting: Thursday, April 2, at 2:30 pm. We will be receiving an update on arts, world languages, and enrichment offerings, teacher retention, and a monthly financial report. The agenda will be posted here next week, and you can watch the meeting live here.
  • Spring Break: April 6–10. Happy Easter, Passover, and Spring to all those who celebrate!

That is commitment to APS

(...even after retirement)

David White, former principal and APS Principal of the Year at Burgess-Peterson Elementary, was recently featured for his inspiring return to the school community in a new role as building site manager. After a decade of transformative leadership, he chose to continue serving BPA in a different but equally meaningful way. We are grateful for his continued commitment and the example of servant leadership he brings to our school community. Read more about his story here.
