Greetings!

The weather in January has certainly been a little unpredictable. I appreciate the administration's coordinated efforts to balance safety while prioritizing instructional time. Let's hope for a February free of weather events.

As we settle into the new calendar year, we are focused on building a budget, in a challenging financial environment, that is aligned with our values and responsible to our taxpayers. That process will be picking up speed in the coming weeks as we work to provide our teachers and staff with the resources to be successful. Follow along with the budget process here.

Let's get to the updates:

  • February Board meeting: Monday, February 2, at 2:30 pm. We will be hearing a midyear update on the progress of early literacy, investments in our teacher and leader corps, and a monthly financial report. The full agenda is here.
  • Facilities landing page: This page shares information about district-owned properties, the repurposing pipeline, and how APS is planning for a future-ready, right-sized footprint that meets the district needs. There is also an interactive map to learn more about APS properties.
  • Offer to hug your counselor - they will appreciate it! National School Counseling Week (February 2-6) provides us all with an opportunity to highlight the commitment that APS school counselors make to ensure every student is ready for college, career and life.

Committing to District Leadership

I am grateful to be elected by my colleagues to serve as Board Vice Chair. In supporting our new chair, Jessica Johnson, my goal is to ensure the Board is transparent, responsive, and responsible. Our charge is to provide the resources, support, and accountability Dr. Johnson needs to achieve the goals of the 2030 Strategic Plan. I am excited about the opportunity ahead!
