Greetings!

Congratulations—we made it to the end of another successful school year in Atlanta Public Schools!

As we close out the year, I want to congratulate the Class of 2026 and celebrate the accomplishments of every APS student advancing to the next chapter of their educational journey. From our youngest learners to our graduating seniors, our students continue to demonstrate resilience, growth, and achievement.

Thank you to our families, educators, and staff for your partnership and commitment throughout the year. I hope you have an opportunity this summer to rest, recharge, and spend time with the people you love. We look forward to welcoming students back in August and building on the momentum of this year as we continue our work to ensure every child thrives.

Have a wonderful summer!

We still have one more Board meeting before the July break. Here are some key updates for this month's meeting:

  • Monday, June 1, at 2:30 pm. Staff will provide year-end report on progress toward the strategic plan, present the final 2026-27 budget and a discussion of key policy items. The agenda is here and you can stream the meeting live here.
  • Technology limitations policy proposed: APS is eager to ensure digital tools enhance learning rather than replace effective teaching and hands-on instruction. The Board is putting this vision into action with technology use policy scheduled for first read. See the more detail here.
  • Launching the Tax Allocation District Investment Review Committee: APS is proposing to create an advisory committee to review all proposed TAD agreements to analyze potential fiscal, student, family, and community impacts associated with APS participation. The draft policy is here.

APS Recognized as a "District on the Rise"

APS has been featured in the 2026 Education Scorecard, a joint initiative led by Harvard University’s Center for Education Policy Research and Stanford University’s Educational Opportunity Project. As part of the report (literacy chart below), APS was recognized as a “District on the Rise,” highlighting that APS students are improving in both math and reading at a faster rate than similar districts. APS stands out for building a coherent instructional system anchored by tight curriculum alignment, layered coaching, and a data infrastructure that informs decision-making from the district level down to individual classrooms.

News to Know

What is a Tax Allocation District (TAD)?

APS launched a website that provides an overview of how TADs work and the district’s current participation. These development decisions have a direct impact on our public schools.

Enjoy graduation over and over again

Relive every speech, handshake, and moment of joy from this year’s graduations. Congratulations to the Class of 2026—your greatness awaits.
