A Message from
Superintendent Dr. Fateama Fulmore
Dear NOLA-PS Families, Students, and Community,
Summer is off to a great start! It's been filled with celebrating our graduates, enjoying summer programs, and having tons of fun!
Speaking of graduates, in June, we honored the remarkable graduates of The NET Schools and Rooted School. The NET students, through project-based learning and partnerships, turned challenges into opportunities, embodying belonging, independence, mastery, and generosity. Rooted’s Class of 2025 showed excellence and leadership, leaving a legacy of brilliance. Congratulations to all—your journeys are just beginning!
Our summer programs thrived. At The Leah Chase School, the Summer Acceleration Program provided targeted academic support for 120 K-5 students with math and reading, fostering curiosity and growth. In addition, our Extended School Year (ESY) Program provided essential services for students with disabilities, ensuring continuity of learning. Meanwhile, the McKinney-Vento Program offered resources for students experiencing housing instability. Hosted at The Leah Chase School, these initiatives underscore NOLA-PS’ commitment to providing opportunities for all students. I’m incredibly proud of our students’ progress and our staff’s dedication through these summer programs, along with the additional summer school enrichment experiences offered across our district.
As we dive into July, I hope everyone has an enjoyable rest of the summer. Splash in some water, check out a new book, or explore new things in our community - every moment is a chance to learn and grow. Stay safe, stay connected, and stay cool.
Thank you for choosing NOLA Public Schools and being partners in our students' success. We look forward to welcoming you to the 2025-2026 school year. We're ready to soar to new heights together.
Forward, together!
Dr. Fateama Fulmore

Friendly Reminder About the 2026 Accountability System
NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is gearing up for the Louisiana Department of Education’s new “Grow. Achieve. Thrive.” accountability system, set to launch in Fall 2026 using 2025-2026 data.
This clear, 100-point system focuses student growth, proficiency, and college/career readiness.
Learn how NOLA-PS is integrating this into our Charter School Accountability Framework (CSAF) here! For details on the state system, click this link.

National Safety Month: Summer Safety for Our Kids
June is National Safety Month, and NOLA Public Schools is dedicated to keeping our students safe this summer.
To beat the heat, encourage kids to drink water often, limit outdoor play during peak sun hours (10 AM–6 PM), and watch for signs of heat illness like dizziness. Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen, seek shade, and dress kids in light, loose clothing and hats.
For water safety, supervise children closely around pools or lakes, use life jackets, and consider swim lessons.
Protect against insects with 30% DEET repellent.
Keep fireworks away from kids, maintain a first aid kit, and promote healthy eating.

Stay safe and enjoy summer!

Preparing for the Height of Hurricane Season
As we enter July, NOLA-PS urges our families to prepare for the peak of hurricane season, which intensifies from August through October in New Orleans. With our city’s unique vulnerability to storms, taking proactive steps now ensures the safety of your family and our school community. Here’s how you can get ready.
Start by building an emergency kit with essentials: at least three days’ worth of water (one gallon per person per day), non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, a first aid kit, medications, and important documents in waterproof containers. Include items for children, like games or comfort items, to ease stress. Next, create a family evacuation plan. Map out evacuation routes, keeping in mind potential road closures. Ensure everyone knows how to stay in contact, including an out-of-state emergency contact.
Stay informed by signing up for alerts from the City of New Orleans at www.nola.gov/ready or downloading the FEMA app. Review your home’s safety—secure heavy objects, trim trees, and check shutters or storm panels.
Confirm your school’s emergency communication plan by contacting your school office or checking your school's website. Finally, discuss hurricane preparedness with your children to reduce anxiety, explaining what to expect and how your family will stay safe.

Let’s stay ready, New Orleans!
