Worthy Wednesdays are Back!
Our community business partners help make our work possible and we are grateful and excited to be chosen as a Worthy Wednesday partner at The Burleigh!

On Wednesday, May 10, please join us for a fantastic meal for a good cause at The Burleigh at the Kennebunkport Inn. You can spend an evening with family and friends and know that your time together is supporting affordable housing in our community. The Kennebunkport Inn will donate 10% of the evening's revenues to us and you will enjoy dining on delicious food and drinks at this cozy gastropub.

Thank You, Patrick Briggs!
Patrick Briggs is modest when asked about his role in starting the Kennebunkport Heritage Housing Trust, "I think I came along at the right time."

Pat was serving one of his three terms on the Kennebunkport Select Board when it became clear to him that affordable housing was needed to keep the town from changing from a vibrant, year-round community to a seasonal resort town. He credits his extensive military career with helping him understand how to identify challenges, how to get around them, how to see what is possible, and for helping him ask in the face of a changing demographic, "If we want to do something about it, what can we do and how." Of the Trust's work Pat says, "We are doing something the town needs and where the town is the beneficiary."

Pat enlisted in the US Air Force in 1959 and went to pilot training in a bomber class for the B-47. He shifted to the B-52 and became an instructor pilot before convincing his superior officers to allow him to serve in Vietnam. His two tours in Vietnam included 148 air missions where he earned eight air medals and was honored for his service with a Distinguished Flying Cross.

When he returned to the States, Pat managed a nuclear weapons environment in Omaha, NE, served as Assistant Air Attache in Brazil, was a member of the air staff at the Pentagon, and completed his 20 year career as a Lt. Colonel on the staff of the Secretary of Defense. He spent the remainder of his civilian career in the national and international aerospace industry in Washington, D.C. before retiring to Kennebunkport.

Pat and his wife Ann Marie, also a Vietnam veteran, have been married 44 years. Pat always speaks warmly of his wife and will tell you, "She is one of the greatest people you'd ever want to know." As the Past President of KHHT, he continues to serve as a board member and advocate for more affordable housing. Pat reminds us that "Kennebunkport is built on volunteerism - you need a robust group of people. There's more we could do if we could find enough people that believe in the vision."

Thank you Pat for your vision, your commitment to affordable housing, your collaborative efforts that brought, "the right people together," and for your continued service to the Kennebunkport community!

Meet the 2023 Executive Committee

The KHHT Board elected the 2023 Executive Committee at the December 2022 meeting; Julie Grady, President, Pat Clancy, Vice-President, David Kling, Treasurer, and Thomas McClain, Secretary. Learn more about them below and meet the full board on our website.
“As a young married couple Russ and I purchased our home in Kennebunkport on what was then an old dirt road. Almost immediately after we realized that Kennebunkport was home. I joined the KHHT because the opportunity we had as a young family is no longer available for today’s young families.”

Julie Grady, President

“I look forward to continuing to contribute to the important work of sustaining Kennebunkport as a strong year round community and to combining my experience with the strong local leadership involved in the Trust to help to achieve that goal.”

Pat Clancy, Vice-President
"I joined the Heritage Housing Trust because of concerns that Kennebunkport was losing too many year round residents and community identity."

David Kilng, Treasurer
"Maine has a wonderful quality of life, however, Southern Maine is growing rapidly pushing up home prices. As a member of KHHT I want to work to maintain Kennebunkport’s small town, seacoast feel that includes affordable housing for families to live and work."

Tom McClain, Secretary
Thank you to our 2022 Donors!
Our work is only possible because of the generosity of our individual donors. Your continued support is why six new households now call Kennebunkport home and why we are able to get started on our next neighborhood in 2023. Thank you to all of our donors for keeping our community vibrant and accessible to working families and seniors!

Dooryard Games
While a dooryard is best used for a game of tag or hide and seek while adults chat by the porch, there's room for some word play in our Dooryard newsletter!

Use the letters to the left to find words that all include the center letter, G, at least once in the word. There is one word that uses all 7 letters only once, can you find it? Have fun!
