Fall 2024

KHHT is Now NHT!

Kennebunkport Heritage Housing Trust is now Neighborhood Housing Trust! This new name reflects our expansion to Kennebunk and Arundel with our mission to build homes working families and seniors can afford to buy. Check out our new website, www.nhtmaine.org Thank you to David Lennon of Brand Edge Creative for volunteering his time and talent for our new logo!

Why are We Expanding?

The decision to expand our work beyond Kennebunkport has been almost two years in the making. We recognize the need for more housing to sustain our workforce and our community and believe that housing in any one of our three towns serves everyone in our three towns. The KKA Chamber and RSU 21 both show what we all know - while each town has unique needs and distinct character, we are truly one community.

At a Town of Kennebunkport Select Board meeting in September, former Trust president and current board member, Patrick Briggs shared our expansion plans publicly:

"While we continue to identify land opportunities in Kennebunkport and remain committed to our work to bring homes for working families and seniors to Kennebunkport, we also need to expand our mission to Kennebunk and Arundel. This decision was not made lightly and the KHHT board has been discussing this possibility for almost two years. The reality is that land in Kennebunkport is scarce and what little is available is priced too high for us to afford. To reflect our new expanded focus, we are changing our name to Neighborhood Housing Trust. This new name highlights what we do while also being more inclusive of all the towns we plan to partner with in the future. We are proud that our roots are in Kennebunkport, we are committed to continuing our work here and we are excited to bring our model of permanently affordable homes to our neighbors in Kennebunk and Arundel."

Our Annual Campaign is Underway Now!

Donations to our annual campaign make sure we can meet our very modest operations budget. Your support as a monthly donor or as a one-time donor means that we can keep working towards our mission to bring housing to working families and seniors in the most expensive real estate market in Maine!

This year's campaign goal is $50,000 and we are well on our way! Thank you to those who have donated this year and to our monthly donors who keep us funded all year long!

Do you have questions about our work and our goals? Please send us an email and we will find a time to meet by phone, Zoom, or in person to talk about what we do, how we do it, and why it matters.

Welcome Grace Sprague

We are excited to start a new partnership with the University of New England by hosting a student as a Shaw Innovation Fellow! The Shaw Innovation Fellowship supports students who work with partner organizations to create solutions that address social, environmental, and economic challenges facing our communities.

"My name is Grace Sprague, and I am a senior communications student with minors in psychology and writing at the University of New England. On campus, I am a writer for The Bolt, UNE’s student news publication, and an intern for the Across the Disciplines journal. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, playing video games, and spending time with my dogs!"

Our Mission and Vision

The mission of the Neighborhood Housing Trust is to sustain Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, and Arundel as year-round communities by providing housing accessible to working families and seniors.

Our vision is a vibrant, multigenerational, diverse community where citizens raise their families, support our schools, volunteer with their neighbors, enrich our workforce, and contribute to our treasured quality of life.

We will achieve our mission and vision through the dedicated efforts of our board and staff and with the support of residents, the business community, philanthropic funders, and public resources that share our vision. We will join our fellow local nonprofits in being a trusted member of the community and a valued steward of the public’s trust by creating and sustaining attainable housing.
