Business After Hours & Ribbon Cutting to Commemorate the Opening of Cambridge Harbor's Waterfront Promenade
The Chamber joined the folks at CWDI to host a Business After Hours and Ribbon Cutting for Cambridge Harbor's Waterfront Promenade.
The opening of the Waterfront Promenade is the first step in the massive revitalization project that has been in the works for years. Cambridge Harbor's tagline, "Lured by the Water, Kept by our Heritage," encompasses the blue-collar, maritime spirit of a city steeped in history. The water draws residents and visitors to our site, but the community's collective cultural narrative and experiences keep us here.
Be sure to stop by to take a stroll and see the progress, while also enjoying the all the scenic views of the Choptank River!

'Really big milestone': CWDI celebrates opening of promenade
CAMBRIDGE — As storm clouds rolled over the Choptank River, officials and residents celebrated the opening of the Cambridge Harbor promenade Thursday.
The promenade marks the first tangible piece of the Cambridge Waterfront Development, Inc.’s vision for the harbor development. CWDI Board President Angie Hengst described the promenade as a “really big milestone” for the volunteer-led organization.
“Today marks our first, I’ll call it a groundbreaking project, the first thing we’ve actually seen on this site, which is really, really exciting for us,” Hengst said. “Especially exciting because it is a public amenity. It is something that is available for the entire community to use, and we hope that the entire community does come out and use it.”

The Spy Cannabis Conversations
For many Maryland residents, the world of legal cannabis has become far more complicated than simply deciding whether to smoke it or not. Today’s dispensaries offer everything from traditional flower and pre-rolls to concentrates, gummies, tinctures, topicals, beverages, and products for sleep to arthritis relief. For newcomers and longtime users alike, the choices can be overwhelming.
In our ongoing Spy series with Sunburst’s Jake Fessler, we continue our exploration of Maryland’s cannabis market by examining the expanding range of products now available and the reasons consumers choose one over another. Instead of focusing solely on brands or potency, our chat examines how experienced dispensary staff helps customers match products to their goals, whether that’s pain management, better sleep, discretion, or recreational use.
This video is approximately 12 minutes in length. For more information about Sunburst Pharm, please go here.

Our Town Vienna: An Epic Journey by Kathryn Masten
After my Our Town Vienna: A Blank Wall and an Open Invitation story was published, I found myself still thinking about the mural that once stretched across the wall of Vienna’s community building — a story I realized I didn’t yet fully know – especially since I could not find any signature. How did such a beautiful set of paintings come to be on that wall? Who put them there? Who moved them to where they are now?
So I went looking for the story behind the story. At first, artificial intelligence told me that the mural was created by unnamed, unknown community contributors, but I knew better. Following links provided to artists who had done other murals in the area, I soon found my answer.
Two interviews later — one with the artist who painted the mural, Michael Rosato, and one with the idea’s originator, Amanda Fenstermaker, I discovered that the Vienna mural wasn’t just public art. It was part of a national, state, and local trail system intended to connect communities through art. Vienna was once squarely on these maps – but now sometimes with a caveat: “This mural is currently being relocated. Stay tuned!”
While the mural was never given an official name, it came to be known in different circles as “Chesapeake Epic” or “Vienna Epic”. This is Epic’s journey so far – and why remembering matters.

Cambridge receives $1.15M to upgrade Cedar Street corridor
CAMBRIDGE — The City of Cambridge has received $1.15 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation for improvement of the Cedar Street corridor.
To reduce flooding and improve safety, the funding will support improvements along the Cedar Street Gateway corridor connecting U.S. Route 50 to downtown Cambridge. These enhancements will include drainage, stormwater, streetscape, and pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure upgrades.
“The Cedar Street Gateway is an important route into downtown Cambridge, and this investment will modernize the corridor while improving drainage and protecting against future flooding,” Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md., 1st) wrote in a statement. “I’m proud to have helped secure this award and move this project forward.”

For All Seasons Debuts New Online Series on Mindfulness for Elementary-aged Children
As elementary-aged students enjoy summer camps and local playgrounds, and prepare to head back to school, they often need help managing emotions, navigating challenges, and reducing stressful moments. For All Seasons Center for Learning has created a new online series, guided by beloved educator "Coach Bob" Hyman, whose Turtle mindfulness lessons helped generations of Talbot County students build emotional awareness, self-control, and resilience. Now, his trusted approach is available to children everywhere, helping young learners build their emotional vocabulary, recognize body cues, and practice self-regulation.
"The agency has long been focused on building emotional literacy, resilience, and lifelong mental health, which begins in youth and extends into adulthood. Mindfulness is a skill. The new video series uses illustrated storytelling, playful activities, breathing exercises, and guided relaxation techniques through the 'Turtle' method, helping children who feel overwhelmed use mindful listening, positive self-talk, body awareness, and kindness practices," shares Lauren Weber, Chief Strategy Officer at For All Seasons.
The course is also a helpful resource for educators, youth-serving professionals, coaches, and anyone supporting elementary-aged children.

Vessel Documentation: Recording the Lines with CBMM's Sam Hilgarter
In this course led by CBMM's Vessel Conservation Manager Sam Hilgartner at Richardson Maritime Museum in Cambridge, Md., we will record the dimensions and shape of a small skipjack or bateau called Peregrine.
Our measurements can then be transferred into a table of offsets to be used to draw a set of lines for construction and archival purposes. Recording lines is one way of learning drafting where rather than coming to understand a vessel design through abstract principles, our lines are developed directly from an actual vessel.
You will leave knowing how to define water lines, buttock lines, station lines, the base line, forward and aft perpendiculars, diagonals, shearline, profile view, half breadth view, plan view, and basic principles of vessel documentation.
This class is a partnership program between the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and Richardson Maritime Museum and welcomes any level of skill or familiarity in wooden boat construction and design.
Vessel Documentation: Recording the Lines
Date/Time: Saturday-Sunday, July 18 & 19, 9am-3pm
Location:Richardson Maritime Museum, 103 Hayward St. Cambridge, MD 21613
