It'sTime to Check Your Information

We are working to update member records

Please be sure to let us know if there are changes to be made to your account.

We are currently working on the Dorchester Chamber of Commerce 2027 Business and Community Resource Directory, and we want to make sure the information we print in the book for you is as accurate as possible. We also get thousands of online searches of our member directory each month so the more accurate your data the more likely new business will come your way.

Your membership provides excellent opportunities for your organization to attract new customers and share information with our community and the region. Completing and keeping your profile accurate is critical to gaining increased visibility and exposure. All the information we capture is important, but keywords are critical, and they need to be accurate and complete for your business to show up in online searches.

An email was sent out to all members 10/6/2026 to review the information we have. You can also just email the corrections to us at robinmarie@dochesterchamber.org.

Acclaimed Musician Dom Flemons to Perform at NHPA Annual Meeting

Dom Flemons, the Grammy-winning musician, will be coming to Dorchester County to perform at the Nanticoke Historic Preservation Alliance’s annual meeting on Saturday November 7th. The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the new Three Cultures Center at the Handsell Historic Site (4837 Indiantown Road) in Vienna, MD.

Known as “The American Songster,” Flemons is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and acclaimed performer of traditional folk, blues, country, and bluegrass songs. A former member of the Carolina Chocolate Drops, he won a Grammy Award in 2010; his solo albums Black Cowboys and Traveling Wildfire were also nominated for Grammys. Last year, he was inducted into the American Banjo Hall of Fame.

At Handsell, Flemons will perform a carefully-selected repertoire that includes tunes from the Traveling Wildfire disc. Drawing on his deep knowledge of music history, the hour-long show will weave together songs and stories and highlight the contributions of Black artists to American roots music. Flemons will be available for a meet-and-greet after the show.

Dorchester Health Dept. Hosted Maryland Walks Day in Cambridge

341744803932db660e519639b00dba52d24fe76d image

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – Communities across the state of Maryland are getting ready to lace up their sneakers this Wednesday for Maryland Walks Day.

Local health departments are encouraging people to come together and walk through their communities .The goal is reaching one million steps across the state in the month of October.

And in the City of Cambridge, the Dorchester County Health Department is working with local businesses to get people walking downtown.

“But we’re also trying to involve the businesses downtown and Cambridge and get, the walkers in the doors at the businesses. So we went door to door yesterday and try to get the businesses to offer discounts.. And we did get some takers…” says Dorchester County Health Department Advisor, Robin Stanley.

Walking is the state of Maryland’s official exercise, and the state wants to celebrate all the health and environmental benefits that come with getting your steps in.

Cambridge Police Dept. Hosts Fall National Night Out

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – The Cambridge Police Department is preparing to host its annual National Night Out this week.

The department moved the city’s Night Out Event from August to October last year, and saw an increase in attendance. So Cambridge Police is bringing the event back to Jerry boyle park again, featuring giveaways and fall themed events.

Police Captain, Antoine Patton says they’re looking forward to even more people coming out this year.

Richardson Maritime Museum Celebrating Special Boatyard Bash

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – It’s all hands on deck at the Richardson Maritime Museum as everyone from the museum to the Boatworks is preparing for this weekend’s Boatyard Bash; the museum’s biggest celebration of the year.

“This Museum upstairs had just been opened up for the first time. So not only are we having the Boatyard Bash with all the fun activities. We’re going to be celebrating a year that the museum has been reopened,” says Museum Board Chairperson, Debbie Usab.

And they have a good reason to celebrate on the harbor.

The museum has truly come a long way over the course of the last year, going from the brink of shutdown, to hosting thriving programs.

Debbie tells WMDT, “Last year, we applied for. Over $1 million in funding, in grant funding, and I think we received about $300,000 worth of grants. But for projects…”

And for longtime members of the museum board who’ve been through many of those ups and downs…

All4Love Holding Fundraiser for Youth Football

(CAMBRIDGE, Md) – As they’re wrapping up their first season local group All4Love is holding a fundraiser to further improve the youth football program in Dorchester County, and the first step is raising enough money to buy 100 new football helmets.

All4Love took control of the Dorchester County youth football and cheer programs earlier in the year.

And Director, Lucas Thorpe says they’ve been able to replace some of the helmets but.

Lucas tells WMDT, “…this offseason, we’re looking to replace the remaining 40. And these are around $130, for each helmet. For our cheer program. They’re cheering at the Naval Academy, in November. And we want to provide more opportunities for our young ladies as well.”

With all the success they’ve had this season they want to keep the program moving forward.

“This is a really good season for us. This being our first season, but also in general, looking at previous, numbers, this is a really good year, for the sport, in terms of football in and cheer, in general in the area. So we have a lot of participation…” says Lucas.

Discover Delmarva: The Mystery of Dorchester County’s Handsell House

DORCHESTER COUNTY, Md. — Just a few miles off of Route 50, in Dorchester County sits a brick house. This has been one of Dorchester County’s biggest mysteries for generations. But today, the story of this house is being discovered one chapter at a time.

“When we first encountered this place, it really was a mystery. It was a house covered in ivy in the middle of a corn field, and nobody knew anything about it.”, says Midge Ingersoll, a founder of the National Preservation Historic Society.

They call the site Handsell. And since 2005 the Nanticoke Historic Preservation Alliance has uncovered a story much bigger than one house.

“The big thing about here is that three cultures have lived on this land, including the native people that were here before the English came.”, Ingersoll tells WMDT.
