Most notable stories from last week were…
1.) Color Enhanced Ruby with Chromium
This feature not only received the most views, it sparked conversation within international enhancement disclosure committees!
... and we even posted our first YouTube video to bring more attention to it. Link below.
|
|
2) The Graff Infinity Tiara
This feature had the second most views last week, and no wonder... this tiara was topped with an amazing 157 carat heart shape diamond! We also dove into the reason why we are seeing so many very large diamonds, all within the past five years or so.
And we will probably be seeing more!
|
|
3) Low Temperature Heat Treatment
Our third most read feature last week included this story on low temperature heat treatment.
Low temperature heat treatment is SO hard to identify, but E. Billie Hughes and Wim Vertriest, using a grant from the Accredited Gemologists Association, help us to understand it a whole lot better in their report for GIA's Gems & Gemology magazine.

For those who have not read these features yet, the links are below ....

It's a combination of pyrope, spessartine and almandine, with a color shift and strong red fluorescence to LWUV.
So the first question is... why is it called Dragon Garnet?

The Dragon Garnet - what is it, and why is it called Dragon Garnet?
|
|
by Gary Roskin, exclusively for the Roskin Gem News Report
We came across the stone quite by accident in Tucson at the 22nd Street tent. We were passing by a booth and the rich green color of the demantoid garnet in the front case screamed at us to stop and take a closer look.
This is where we met Ales Krivanek, owner of Ravenstein Gem Company.

He is in a position to know: as a scion of the Kwiat family he is the CEO of the famous jewelry enterprise, but he also heads up Fred Leighton, the legendary purveyor of antique jewelry.
