Employee Spotlight!

The Maryland Department of Labor (MD Labor) held the third annual Maryland Apprenticeship Awards to recognize exemplary participants in Maryland apprenticeships and to highlight apprenticeship as an outstanding workforce development model. Santana Brown and Dexter Ginyard were selected as award winners for the 2023 Maryland Apprentice Awards! The Maryland Department of Labor honored both Mr. Brown and Mr. Ginyard at the 2023 Maryland Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony that took place November 16, 2023, during National Apprenticeship Week. These two have been working very hard and deserve these awards! Their willingness to learn and dedication to their teams are amazing to see.

Employee Portal Important Information!

Recently, Luis Catillo, Paul Tse, and Jeremiah Caldwell visited Thomas Edison High School to discuss career paths at Shapiro & Duncan with the students. Paul and Jeremiah were excellent choices to talk about this topic because of the paths they took to reach where they are today. Paul graduated from Thomas Edison in 2005, then entered the field and is currently a Senior Project Manager. Jeremiah graduated from Thomas Edison in May and is now working with us as an HVAC apprentice. We truly appreciate their willingness to spend time speaking with the students and sharing their experiences.

Completed Certifications/Training 

This month S&D University hosted two Med Gas Installation and Brazing Classes at our Fabrication Shop in Landover. They were both 4-day classes with testing on the final day.  

We would also like to give a quick shout out to the employees who completed the Crestcom Field Supervisor Leadership course. These individuals acquired skills though this training that will better help them in their current leadership roles, as well as providing first time leadership skills for others.

We officially had the first four classes this past month, with more planned for the future. We hope all those in attendance learned something new about the company and our utilization of Design Build in our construction.

Most of these classes have multiple dates or can be taken at any time. Some courses may not be on the portal, but we do have on file. Feel free to email us requesting any form of training you require, and we’ll find a date and time that works for you.
