Vol. #1 Issue #17 September 15, 2026

Welcome to the September edition of the DuPage Health Bulletin newsletter!

One Year of Impact

This month marks one year since the DuPage County Crisis Recovery Center (CRC) opened its doors, offering residents experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis a safe, welcoming place. In just one year, the CRC has provided compassionate, immediate care to our community, completing more than 2,200 onsite crisis assessments, including 386 youth assessments. Today, it is established as a trusted, community-centered resource for DuPage County.

With 9-8-8, the DuPage Crisis Hotline (630-627-1700), mobile crisis response teams, and the CRC, DuPage County now has a coordinated system that ensures residents can access support quickly, receive the right level of response, and get help in a safe setting. The CRC is a powerful example of how coordinated community care can change lives.

The CRC’s impact is clear in the voices of the people it has helped:

  • A parent shared that the CRC “gave them space to breathe and get help for their child.”
  • Another resident said a simple follow-up call “made them feel human again.”
  • One individual offered the most powerful words of all: “You guys saved my life.”

As the CRC celebrates its first year, the message is simple. Reaching out for help can save lives. DuPage County encourages anyone who is struggling to seek support by walking into the Crisis Recovery Center at 115 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton, IL or by calling 9-8-8 or the DuPage Crisis Hotline (630) 627-1700. Help is available 24/7 and no one has to face a crisis alone.

West Nile Virus

DCHD has reported the first human case of WNV. To help DuPage County residents protect themselves against WNV, the DCHD has a Personal Protection Index (PPI) that will provide the amount of WNV activity in the County, as well as prevention steps that are recommended.

The Three Rs

When activated, residents should follow the Three (3) Rs for protecting against mosquitoes that coincide with the PPI risk level.

REDUCE mosquito exposure

  • remove containers outside that hold water
  • empty items that collect water that cannot be removed

REPEL mosquitoes

  • use insect repellent when outdoors
  • wear long pants and long sleeves when outdoors at dawn and dusk

REPORT dead birds and areas where water sits for more than a week

  • contact DCHD through our website to report dead birds or other complaints regarding WNV, such as areas of stagnant water

Safety Saturday

Stop by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Safety Saturday on October 3 for a free gun safe—available to DuPage County residents. One per household, while supplies last.

Safe firearm storage helps protect everyone. Gun safes are a simple tool to prevent accidents in the home.

Impact DuPage

As organizations look for ways to improve care, help residents, and use resources more effectively, Impact DuPage provides a strong way to unite efforts and focus on what matters most for the people of DuPage County.

Impact DuPage is a multisector partnership committed to building a shared understanding of community needs, priorities, and disparities—and using that insight to drive meaningful action. We’re excited to announce the 2026–2030 priority areas, which will guide our work over the next five years:

  • Mental Health & Substance Use
  • Access to Care
  • Maternal & Child Health

Together, we’re working to build a healthier DuPage for everyone.

Career Opportunities

Employment at DCHD represents a unique opportunity to serve and make a difference in our community. We are seeking qualified individuals who are dedicated to the mission of optimizing health and health equity for all residents of DuPage County.
