THE EPISTLE: September 7th, 2022

Wednesday Evening Holy Eucharist, Rite II Service


Beginning this week - Wednesday, September 7, and throughout the month, we will resume the Wednesday Evening Holy Eucharist, Rite II Service at 6:00 P.M. Due to scheduling issues, this service will have no music. We will have the Taizé Service with music on September 14.

Ministry Fair 2022


Next Sunday, September 11, come find ways to get connected to ministries that serve folks at St. Thomas, and others that reach out to our neighbors. Join us between services and after the 10:30 service in the Parish Hall. Breakfast goodies will be served. Come find your niche and get plugged in! We look forward to sharing with you information about these ministries.

Children & Youth Christian Formation Starting

Children's Ministry


Join us as we kickoff our Sunday School year on September 11 at 9:30am in Hiers Hall! We'll have our Godly Play class for Pre-K through 1st graders, Love First for 2nd through 4th graders, and a new class for our 5th/6th/7th graders.  Come meet your classmates and teachers!  

 

Children's Chapel will also restart on September 11. We need adult volunteers to help shepherd the children to and from Nave, and if you want to, lead the discussion. Contact our Children's Ministry Coordinator Laura Beth Bestor ([email protected]) if you are interested in helping with this ministry.

Regeneration Returns


ReGeneration is gearing up for another great opportunity for fellowship for our young/young-ish adults and families on Sunday, September 18. We are going to the afternoon Trash Pandas game.  First pitch is at 2:35pm, but the Trash Pandas have asked our group to hold the gigantic flag for the national anthem (gather at 1:45pm for this)!! We need at least 20 people to hold the flag, so email Laura Beth ([email protected]) to reserve your spot(s). 


Tickets, which are $17.44 each with a $2 credit on game day, must be reserved by September 4. You can pay via check made out to the church, cash, or contact Laura Beth for Venmo info. For financial aid to attend the game, contact Laura Beth or The Rev. Young Adult Pub Theology


Calling anyone ages 22-39! Gather with us at this event sponsored by the Diocese of Alabama for all young adults in our area at 6PM, Monday September 12th on the patio of Mellow Mushroom (2230 Cecil Ashburn Dr SE). We will continue to discuss discipleship through the lens of current issues-- specifically our balance between work and rest-- how do we engage in rest in our culture or struggle to maintain a balance? We look forward to seeing you there! Luncheon for Pastoral Care Shepherding Ministry - RSVP BY THURSDAY SEPT. 15


Our Pastoral Care Committee is looking for individuals interested in shepherding St. Thomas parishioners during major life changes by a ministry of communication. We are looking for people who are able to stay in touch by phone calls and possibly short visits and keep our clergy updated. If you would like to learn more or are interested in being part of this ministry please join us for a luncheon on Sunday, September 18, immediately following the 10:30AM service to learn more! Meals on Wheels Delivery Volunteers Needed


Meals on Wheels provides a nutritious lunch Monday-Friday, year-round to Huntsville seniors age 60 or over, who are unable to cook for themselves, have no one available to cook for them, and are primarily homebound. The St Thomas MOW delivery team needs volunteers who can deliver one day each month. If you want to join this ministry or need more information, contact Mark Dixon at (256) 426-0381 or [email protected].

The Season of Lobsterfest 2022 – Lobsterfest 101


Lobsterfest 2022 the 29th event is upon us. This year’s event will be led by “Tom and the Mark’s” (Tom Perry, Mark Dixon and Mark Mohler). The Lobsterfest Steering Committee has decided that with the COVID pandemic still around, that this year’s event will be a “Drive-Thru” event again. Lobsterfest will officially start with the Lobsterfest 101 event on September 18, between services.

Grief Group at St. Thomas


The Grief Support Group continues to meet each Wednesday at 2:00 in the parlor. The Rev. Carl Malm guides the discussion. Anyone grieving any loss or life transition is encouraged to come. For more information contact Virginia at [email protected]  

Caregivers Support Group


If you or someone you know is a caregiver for a loved one, we have a support group at St. Thomas that meets every other week. Our next meeting is Wednesday, September 7 at 1 P.M. in the Crossroads Room.

Interfaith Mission Service


Interfaith Mission Service presents the 2022 Annual Celebration and Awards Conference, “The Hope & Spirit of Beloved Community” on September 20 at 6:00 PM. The keynote speaker is Rev. Reminder


If you need to borrow or use anything in the church, please check it out in the church office. This includes wheelchairs, kitchen items, tents, tables/chairs, etc. Please help us be good stewards of our church.

Habitat Landscaping


The final act for our house is sodding and landscaping the house at 6221 Maywick Street on Saturday, September 10. We will work from 8 to noon and we need some hands to help. Call Elouisa Stokes for more information at 256-604-8669.
