CMC Board Of Trustees approves CMC’s 8th bachelor’s degree

At their meeting on March 14, the Colorado Mountain College (CMC) Board of Trustees approved a new Bachelor of Applied Science in Integrated Media, which will be offered at its Spring Valley campus in Glenwood Springs. This new degree program, offered through CMC’s Isaacson School for Communication, Arts & Media, is designed to prepare students for careers in marketing, strategic communication in digital spaces and more.

“Our faculty developed this bachelor’s degree in response to demand from employers who need well-rounded communicators to help companies, nonprofits, and organizations like hospitals and local governments tell their story,” said the Dean of CMC’s Isaacson School for Communication, Arts & Media Dr. Jess Guarnero.

“This will be an attractive degree for students new to CMC, as well as students pursuing associate degrees in our professional photography, graphic design, digital media, and ski and snowboard business programs,” added Guarnero.

Classes for the new bachelor’s degree will begin this fall.

Alpine Bank: Celebrating 50 years - A Win for CMC and the Community

This year, Alpine Bank reaches its 50th anniversary milestone, Colorado Mountain College celebrates this milestone and has benefitted from their success. Both the college and the bank literally grew up together and have operated in nearly all the same towns and counties over five decades. The college was founded in 1967 and the bank in 1973.

Alpine Bank founder and chairman Bob Young has always placed an exceptionally high value on education. “Our bank is only as strong as the community it serves,” he said. There is no better way to make a difference in someone’s life than to offer them a way to make a difference for themselves.” Bob served on the CMC Foundation Board of Directors from 1999-2004 and is a former member of CMC’s President’s Advisory Council.

As Alpine Bank celebrates its anniversary, one way to show appreciation to both the college and the bank is by using a CMC Loyalty Debit Card, which funds scholarships for nontraditional students. Every time a CMC card is used, the CMC Foundation receives 10 cents from Alpine Bank to go towards these scholarships. To date, those dimes have raised over $900,000 since 2007.

Alpine Bank customers can easily join this effort by selecting CMC as your preferred debit card. Non-customers may also join in this innovative fundraising program by setting up an account at any Alpine Bank branch, or online

How to unlock debt-free federal financial aid for college

For many students, the cost of a college education can seem like a roadblock, despite the potentially life-changing opportunities provided by postsecondary studies. However, students should know that they have access to a range of funding opportunities, including free grants, scholarships, on-campus employment programs and traditional student loans - by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA). Otherwise, they might be leaving money on the table.

Jesse Moreno is completing his Associate of Applied Science degree in paralegal at Colorado Mountain College's Salida campus. Moreno says his FAFSA application was a game-changer, allowing him access to funding that's given him the chance to commit full-time to his studies.

"I hadn't been in school for 20 years, and I was looking for something with a lot of flexibility, especially after the pandemic," Moreno says. "This has set me on a new path in life. I was uncertain about school and getting into debt, and wondering if I could make enough money while studying. But the after-effects of applying for financial aid absolutely changed my life."
