This week as we approach the holidays and the end of the 2nd semester I want to wish everyone a restful holiday break! Congressman's Office Visits
We had an exciting visitor this week at McAuliffe! Students in our STEM I class were visited by a representative from District 48's Harley Rouda to congratulate them on their exemplary work with the Congressional App Challenge!

Students received special recognition from the Congressman's office for the Apps they imagined, designed, and coded to accomplish real world problems.

Los Al Thespian Festival
Advanced Drama rocked the Jr. Thespian Festival this past Saturday at Los Alamitos High School. Over 200 middle school students attended from 11 schools from all over California. Students participated in workshops, watched performances, and competed in individual events. All McAuliffe students received top scores, with Emily Fitzgerald, Olivia Graser, Tanner Linn, and Jonathan Reyes being chosen as "Best of Fest" for monologues and scenes.  
Into Thin Air!
To help students understand the relationship between thermal energy and the rate of evaporation, these 6th grade students recorded rates of evaporation in the shade versus the sun.
Film Festival coming in February!
We invite all students to participate in the 2020 McAuliffe Film Festival. This year's theme is " Never Be Afraid to Dream " and the possibilities are endless for student work! If you would like to participate please click on the details below.

Donation Opportunity!
Every year we collect gift cards to donate to needy families in the McAuliffe community. If you are able to donate a gift card to anywhere, in any amount, please bring to our office by Wednesday, December 18th.
Girl Scout Project!
Do you ever wonder what to do with the books you have laying around? Hello, my name is Alina Goddard and I am a student here at McAuliffe working on my Silver Award project for Girl Scouts. There is a book drive collecting used and unused books of all reading levels for the Rossmoor library that will occur until Dec. 20. Please help me exceed my goal of 300 books. The box to deposit your books is located in the main office.

Community Service at McAuliffe!
If you know of any non-profit organizations offering volunteer opportunities for middle school students, please submit the name of the organization and their contact info (phone or email) and we will add them to our list! Send to All 8th grade students earning 100 or more volunteer hours during the school year will be recognized at 8th grade promotion. Beginning this year, 6th and 7th grade students may start accumulating volunteer hours and will be recognized for each year they achieve the 100 hour goal. To track your hours, use the "Community Service Log", available in the main office and online:

Since all of us will benefit from this fundraiser, we greatly appreciate everyone’s participation. You can help us reach our goal by taking orders from friends, relatives, neighbors and co-workers. Famous for American-made deliciousness with no added preservatives, See’s is easy to sell because people love the candy.

Important dates:

Fri. 12/13   Fundraiser ends (all orders and money must be turned in).
Wed. 12/18 Candy will be available for delivery to your supporters.
Helpful Hints: • Fill in the pre-sell form completely. • Collect money from your supporters when they order. Ask them to make their checks payable to "McAuliffe PTA" • Verify order quantities and money collected. • Put money in the collection envelope. • Be sure to thank your supporters.
Box Tops for Education!
